Durga breathed heavily looking at the pool of blood near her. She looked emotionless at the man screaming very loudly in pain, writhing, cursing her, and she smiled…….. “Oh you deserve every bit of this pain and more. You’re no longer a man. Good you have no right to be”!!

This man ruined her life, she ruined his identity.
She thought about her life over the last few years, her husband, her child…

Tanvir had been a gambler , sadly she knew this only after marriage. He gambled with everything he had. A compulsive alcoholic, he never cared about the way he blew off his money. She kept telling him that it would lead to deep losses, deep trouble, they would come on the streets, but he turned a deaf ear, He just didn’t care. Why should he? He lived for the moment and hardly had any feelings for any one?

As expected he got himself into deep trouble. The banks kept visiting home and ultimatums were issued. He hadn’t been working well and she struggled between home and her office, she had to at least feed her little Aanya.

The previous night he kept looking at her, staring as she dressed to bed. She was quite surprised that he was at home tonight. He generally was at some pub or casino at this time. Probably he was exhausted of all his money, which was expected.
“You still look a million bucks,” he said.
“Anyone would be ready to be close to you”.
She turned around and looked at him with her big beautiful eyes all so confused,
“I am not looking for anyone Tanvir, I have you with all your flaws”
    Tanvir laughed shamelessly,
‘You know that’s not going to change. I am just this way and why should I?”
“ Aanya is growing Tanvir, you will need to control yourself”.
She came and sat beside him in bed,
“Listen all’s not lost, you can still change yourself. I shall help you.. We …”
“Oh shut up, don’t start it again. I am fed up of this.”
As she lay on the bed, Tanvir said,
“Listen Mr. Shetty was asking about you” Durga turned around to look at him.
    “Who’s Mr. Shetty?” .
"The one who runs that pub that I frequent. Vivek Shetty” .
“Oh what was he asking and why”?
He saw you with me the other day, Seems smitten by your looks. He was just asking if you would ever invite him to dinner” Durga sensed something really fishy.
“Tanvir I don’t get it, Why should he want to be invited to dinner and you know I don’t like these characters”
“Yes but he doesn’t know that”, he said sheepishly. “And I told him that you would love to have him over. So I have fixed it for tomorrow. You better be prepared. Durga that guy rolls in money. He will fish me out of this mess”. And maybe I will change then start working really hard and …… he trailed off while Durga was trying to understand where all this was leading to.
The next morning Tanvir said he was going out and took Aanya with him. He dropped her at his mother in laws house. It was Sunday and very often Aanya played there. Durga got busy with completing the tasks that were left incomplete the entire week.
Around 7 pm she got ready to go to her mother’s house to pick up Aanya. The door bell rang and Tanvir opened it and greeted somebody. A man in his early forties entered.
Durga was introduced to him .So he was the Mr. Shetty. He looks like a creep she thought. As she excused herself saying she was going to her mother’s house, Tanvir protested and said he would accompany her in some time. Wanting to avoid an argument in front of a stranger Durga went to the kitchen.
She was in her kitchen when Tanvir came in and told her that he had forgotten to get the soda and would be back in a jiffy. Before she could protest she heard the door close. She wasn’t sure if this man had gone out with her husband. She slowly got up to go to the living room when she saw a figure standing at the door of her bedroom.
“What are you doing here, Mr. Shetty”? She wanted to sound loud but knew she sounded very meek. Her mouth was dry and words were hardly audible. She could feel her heart pounding hard. He came in and looking at his massive figure she knew she was no match for him. Oh God what was happening! How was she going to save herself from the danger that this man posed for her thanks to her husband?
    He came close and said.
“Do you know how much I paid that husband of yours? He quoted a figure and her head was reeling, no not with the amount mentioned but with the fact that her husband had actually sold her.
“Get out Mr. Shetty or I shall scream”. He laughed so loud that she felt terrorized. She was trapped. Her husband; a man who was to protect her had just got her into a perfect mess. What was she to do? How was she to break free?
She thought about Aanya, her doll , What safety was she in ??, Had she just once listened to her parents before eloping with this mouse of a husband, she wouldn’t probably be in this mess in the first place. She wondered what would happen when her daughter grows up. How would the father then pay off his debts??
Suddenly she was overcome by immense rage. She started screaming. She pushed this Shetty with all her might and ran to the kitchen and picked up the knife, a big huge sharp one. Mr. Shetty was completely flabbergasted. Seeing her rage he knew the only way was out. He opened the door and said in a dangerous tone,
“Your husband will have to pay a heavy price for this”.
She was heaving heavily the sound nothing short of the roar of a lioness, one that has been hurt. Husband , ha, she thought. He ceased to be a husband long back. He shall cease to be a man now.

She called up her mother and asked her to keep Aanya with her for the night. Around midnight Tanvir came in and entered the bed room. He seemed very angry with her but she was prepared for it.
“You stupid woman, what’s the use of all your beauty if it can’t fetch me any money. I can’t keep something that’s not saleable”.
“Well! It’s not as bad as living with a man who can’t protect his wife, who can’t protect his daughter, who lets people into the house to rape his wife. Who sells his wife to repay the loans he has been taking for his selfish desires. Who hasn’t earned a penny in ages, who looks at his wife’s beauty as something for other men to enjoy. Is it so bad?”
He came forward and slapped her hard.Very hard leaving an angry red mark on her cheek.
“Do you know how angry Shetty was, you stupid woman. And for whom are you playing all this holy game. I don’t care about all this wife nonsense. I need the money. For me, for you and for Aanya.”
The moment he took Aanyas name as an excuse, Durga was possessed by rage.
“Yes I will live, not have any debts, give my daughter a good life but I now cease to be your wife and for what you have done I shall see that you cease to be not just my man but a man. Let me show you the real power of a woman. Hell hath no fury than a woman scorned , so here let me give you the first taste of my power, my strength” and then with all her might she threw the drunk Tanvir on the floor, all too taken with antagonism, her long hair set loose flying in all its might as removed his clothes while he couldn’t even move , all too shocked . He was shocked at the sudden display of power, one that he never knew existed and one that was very fearful. And finally with all her womanly power she castrated him. He was screaming in pain, lying in the pool of blood, while she was looking all at peace with herself. Now she could live in peace. A man ceases to be a man when he cannot own up to the promises of safeguarding his woman. This body lying there which now was genderless was better of this way. She opened the door and walked off from this unsafe home to fetch her daughter and move to a safer world.

Never underestimate the power of a woman.

    Devika

    Hello Devika,
A story not for sympathy but for waking up.The husband need not be a drunkard or with other great vices that is justfied to be a man.How many women read as married woman undergo a humiliation in the bed even if they are not in right frame of mind? How many husbands ask their wife?ok make it as talk to their wife?Reverse the scene. Can a wife talk her mind?then it is made out to be cheap talk....with no morals as the she was expected to know her huband was tired!
To praise his wife in front of his folks or jing bang is a humiliation for the man. Then what about the mental agony of the lady who was expecting a praise?
A man has to be a Man in all the places. It is these men who show act of bravery in the four walls be branded as third community where i doubt they will accepted.
Thanks to the Community called Man Woman has been forced to become Durga,as she has taken the mantle to protect and destroy the evil mind.
Thank you for the post it was chilling but was required.

I have just nominated it, but i think in the wrong forum as i realise now, i will corret the mistake right now.

Brilliant point brought out Jayshree. Absolutely echoing my thoughts yaar.

I feel pretty much the same.

You know Jayshree , in our society the women are forced to be recesive ,saying our culture demands it.And they do oblige more often than not.

But if you drive a woman up the wall and try to mess up with her, she has enough power to fight for herself and emerge a winner.

The basic outlook towards women has to still change a lot. They are shown as helpless people at the mercy of men, but in reality it is more a compulsion. Else I absolutely admire the strength of a woman.

Thanks for your great comments Jayshree. Loved it!

    Love,
    Devika

The judgement I guess would have been pretty much as her hubby faced in the story Indher. And how right it would have been!!

    Thanks for stepping in Indher.

    Hello Devika,
You understood my point of view and thanks to that.
The point is Woman is a Enemy to her own community.A woman will never stand for a harrassed woman if she happens to be Married. The Family instead will throw her out and that makes 2 woman battling the odds. The social stigma of woman always at fault will Take Mars to breathe and a New Civilisation Erupts.
How many men have ruined lives of women in marriage that ended in divorce or sufferring?Impotency has never been accepted ,the man has been brave to walk in for a marriage......the Mother has taken sides with the young MAN!Woman suffered and was and is branded.
Just as medical report is advised for any illness before marriage, potency tests should become mandatory. Then begins the ordeal for men waiting to abuse......that i think Devika will be a Bloodles Coup. What say?

    Dear Devika,

    I am impressed!

Least expected something like this from your pen. I read it at one go and must say, you brought out the utter power of a woman's scorn when she has been abused.

Well, something in me felt real good after reading how Durga avenged herself.

There are many heart rending incidents where women are abused by their in-laws, parents (yes) and husbands. We need to hear more of such stories and women have to wake up and be brave.

I want to express much more, but words fail me. A good one Devika, very good.

    L, Kamla
