Savitha was an ordinary girl with normal middle class desires. Her parents were looking for a groom for her. That he should be professionally qualified was her as well as their wish. So they were looking for a doctor or engineer mapillai for her.
They had registered savi‘s horoscope with the nearby ganapathi temple and were already getting lot of replies. Of that they rejected one boy after looking at his photo because he was very dark and looked like a hippo.
Then one more alliance was rejected from the boy’s side as savi’s parents were not for giving dowry. Savi was also against it.
Then the next alliance came to the level of girl seeing.(ponnu pakaradhu). On that day Savi dressed beautifully in an cream colour pattu saree with maroon border. The groom was an engineer and worked for a private company. He had just returned that day from a tour to Coimbatore.
Atlast when the pair were allowed to speak privately, he ravi told savi that he would have to go on tours frequently. Savi agreed and told that she did not fear staying alone in the house. However it was the inlaws condition that savi should not work after marriage and should wear saree when they were around. Savi and ravi were now in Chennai and ravi’s parents were in Trichy.
After the bride seeing ceremony , the families separated. Then savi spoke to ravi again over phone and told him that she was interested in marrying him if he allowed her to work and not interfere in her dress. A sort of pressure was also put upon savi’s parents saying that if they did not agree another alliance was waiting for Ravi.
Finally everything was agreed upon and the marriage was fixed and celebrated in a fitting manner spending nearly five lakhs rupees. The full expense was paid by savi’s parents.
The couple saw a house in a flat in vadapalani.

savi and ravi's life went on happily for some time. They used to go to marina beach every Sunday. Mostly they used to eat outside on weekends as savi did not cook so well. Wherever Ravi went he used to always take savi with him except to his office. On weekdays after Ravi left for office savi went to her parents house and came back before he reached home. She knew to ride a two wheeler .so transport was not a problem. Some days she used to go and get vegetables from the vegetable shop in the next street and cook sambhar and vegetable. Sometimes the sambhar was too much puli and the vegetable was not fried properly. Moreover they both liked different vegetables. So they had small fights because of this.
sometimes savi went to the nearby library and borrowed some books and read them to pass time. On some days she went to the nearby temple.
one day a new neighbor came to their flat. Slowly savi and the new neighbor lata became close friends. One big thing was lata did not have a two wheeler so this increased their bonding more. When lata asked savi immediately obliged and they became inseparable. Savi learnt lot of cooking tips from lata and became a decent cook.
then one day lata told savi about an mlm called HC ( homecare ) . Lata was a member and wanted savi also to become a member. HC dealt with all home care items like tooth brush , shampoo ,nutrition powder etc. savi under the influence of lata began pestering Ravi, to join HC. She told that next weekend there was a meeting and they should go attend it. Savi had given lata a ride to the company office and liked it.

Finally because of Savi’s pestering Ravi agreed to go to the HC meeting.They argued a lot . Ravi told that he did not like savi working. She replied that this was just to spend her free time and not actually going to any office to work. At last ravi agreed reluctantly. When they reached the office it was fully decorated and decked up like a new bride for her wedding. When the MD of HomeCare entered they played hip music and started clapping hands. Savi and ravi also joined in. then the MD began his speech. He started talking about the goodness of HC products. He told that today all products in the market were chemical based but HC products were organic : organic toothpaste, organic shampoo, organic nutrition supplements, everything from A to Z was organic ; even their dishwash liquid and washing liquid. So they will not harm the housewife’s hand or the washing machine.
Finally he came to the price : one 200gm tube cost RS500 and one litre washing liquid cost rs1000. Everyone was shocked. But the company’s reply was that they need to use only five drops to get a better quality wash than their current one. Everyone shook their heads like a flock of sheep. Finally lot of people joined in the sheme . savi also joined. She was sure that she could convince 10 more people to join under her and thereby redeem her investment.
When they went back home savi and ravi had spent rs3000 and had one litre washing liquid , 1 tooth paste , 2 body wash and 1 tooth brush to speak for it.

Savi was very happy when they returned from the meeting. She showered all possible love on Ravi to show her happiness. Ravi's favorite food was masala dosa and Savi made that for dinner that night. Ravi was also happy because Savi was happy.
The next day morning when the servant maid , Lakshmi came Savi showed her all the items she had bought from HC and told her to use only a small quantity. Lakshmi saw everything and agreed to do as Savi instructed her . Just when Lakshmi finished her work , Lata came over. She wanted Savi to come with her to meet a customer. Savi agreed. Just then Ravi called to tell Savi that he would come home for lunch. Savi therefore had to postpone the meeting with the customer. Lata also agreed.
Savi made murungaka sambar and carrot curry for lunch.
Then at 3 pm Savi and Lata went to meet the customer. The new customer was one Mrs.Prasad whom Savi had met last week at the vegetable shop. She just lived 2 streets away. She liked all the products that lata and savi showed and treated them with coffee. She then asked for a free sample of some products so that she could show them to her husband and get his permission to join HC. Savi and lata told Mrs.prasad that they could not give any free samples. Mrs.prasad immediately pulled back and told them that she did not want to join. She unceremoniously sent them out of the house.
