Love Life Part 5

‘’Radhi, please open the door. Talk to me once. I am worried about you’’

He continued talking through the door although there was no response to him.

‘’Open the door Radhi’’

After repeatedly asking for almost 10 times, Raakesh heard the sound of lock opening. The door remained closed.

He opened the door. He went in to see Radhi on the sofa, with her face covered – still crying.

Raakesh put the flowers on the table and went towards Radhi.

‘’Radhi, what happened? Why are you crying?’’

She didn’t answer.

Raakesh looked around. He went to the kitchen and brought a glass of water.

‘’Radhi, look at me. I brought water for you. Drink it first’’

Radhi raised her head. Her face was a mess. She had mascara streaks down her cheeks. Her eyes and face were red. She looked like she didn’t change after coming from office.

‘’Something must have happened in office’’, Raakesh thought

She took a sip of water.

Raakesh held her. He made her drink more water. He walked her to the wash basin and made her wash her face.

After 10 minutes, she looked little better.

He didn’t ask her any more questions for fear that she might breakdown again.

He chatted about the weather, some news and narrated some funny incidents. Radhi remained serious.

Raakesh took her to the kitchen and asked her what she wanted to it. But the same silence. He decided to make some noodles and served her. She didn’t eat. So, he fed her.

It was late in the evening. He didn’t want to leave her alone and go. So, he stayed the whole night keeping a vigil on her.

Next morning, he noiselessly woke up and made breakfast for her. He feigned illness to his boss and stayed Radhi’s home. Radhi’s silence continued but she observed Raakesh’s care for her. She decided to break the ice.

‘’Raakesh, I am sorry’’

Raakesh was relieved to hear her speak. ‘’Why sorry? Don’t bother’’

‘’Thank you for everything you did Raakesh. I am sorry for being uncommunicative’’

‘’Do you want to know what happened?’’ she asked

‘’Ofcourse Radhi. I want to know what caused you so much grief. I abstained from asking you because I didn’t want to force you. Tell me if you feel like’’ he said.

Radhi started….

‘’Alok and I are colleagues from last 1 year. I used to speak to him like any other colleague. Since, he worked in the same team, we used to spend a lot of time discussing our work and sometimes, friendly banter’’

‘’Is Alok the cause of trouble?’’ Raakesh asked seriously

‘’Raakesh please, do you want to really listen? I can’t tell you if become serious. I want you to listen patiently.’’

‘’Try to understand me’’ pleaded Radhi

‘’Sorry, I won’t interrupt you again’’ said Raakesh

Radhi continued, ‘’He is a friendly guy. There is nothing romantic between us, atleast from my side. I talk to him as a not-so-close friend.’’

‘’Yesterday, as I was returning from lunch, I overheard Alok’s phone conversation. I stopped and listened because I heard my name!’’

‘’Alok was saying in the phone that he is regularly spending time with me. He told that he would soon find a right moment to propose me.’’

‘’Surprised, I stayed to listen more:

‘Did you see her picture I sent you? Don’t know if I really love her. I know I am attracted to her. Let’s see, it could be a short fling! No commitments from my side’ said Alok in the phone

He listened as the person on the phone spoke. Then he said,

‘What? Really? What a b**** she is? She behaves like she is the nicest girl. Plus, she has many admirers and friends too.’

He listened again and replied,

‘Nah! I will think over proposing her but I could do something else. I could tarnish her image! How do you like it as revenge? How much will you pay me, Nikhil?’

I was shocked’’ said Radhi after she repeated Alok’s conversation to Raakesh.
