Janani's Revenge - Part 3

Part 2 Recap:
After the wedding, Janani enters Vishnu's home and blends with the place completely. She takes over all the responsibilities and creates a home of bliss for Vishnu and her inlaws. Janani's parents visit her and her mother is surprised at Janani's decision to quit her career and stay at home.

Part 3:
Janani kept herself busy with the household stuff, yet, when Vishnu failed to call her every now and then, she started to panic and call him. When he was a few minutes late due to traffic, she started to panic and call him. She did not like Vishnu being disturbed during the evenings or weekends and started rejecting calls in his mobile, when he was not looking.

Vishnu loved the attention, but, he was in a responsible job and did not entertain a diversion every now and then. He did not want to hurt her and yet had to do something about this. He decided to speak to his mom. Kamala did agree that she had noticed Janani obsessing a lot about him. She attributed this behavior to Janani being the only child and her lack of exposure as such(Janani's world pretty much consisted of her parents, husband and inlaws and nothing else) and with time she will be alright. She asked Vishnu to talk to Janani about the nature of his work and the reason why her constant calls might be a distraction. She also made sure Janani visited her parents every now and then and insisted that Janani should invite her friends home or visit them often.

So, that evening, Vishnu really got held up in an overseas call and did not leave work at the usual time. Janani was worried and pacing up and down the balcony waiting for him. She had called him several times and he was not taking it. Kamala tried to console her, but, her words had not eased the tension. Vishnu reached home around 9pm and Janani had not left the balcony the whole time. She was almost in tears on seeing him and furious that he had forgotten to call her back. Vishnu knew she would be upset and tried to console her, but she was not ready to listen and went to bed. She cried herself to sleep and Vishnu kept tossing and turning, wondering how should he handle this. This was all new to him, he had never seen his mom shed a tear unless it was something really serious and did not really understand why she reacted so much. He wanted to talk to his dad about this, but did not get an opportunity yet as his dad was working and a very busy marketing executive, travelling most of the time. He was hardly at home and Vishnu and Kamala had got used to it.

The next morning, Janani was up and busy as usual, but, would not speak a single word to Vishnu. She was giving him the cold treatment. There were no calls either and Vishnu himself felt a void on not hearing his mobile ring a hundred times, he called her at home and she was responding with all one liners. He felt bad but later laughed at her childishness and planned to surprise her by going home earlier than usual. He knew all this was because she was idle at home and slowly decided to discuss about work with her.

He came home early only to find her sulking in the couch. He knew he was late. After the small talk, he casually asked if she was interested in working as a research assistant in his friend's company as an opening had come up. She stared at him for long before answering that she will think about it later.

Months flew by and they had been married for almost 7 months now and Vishnu still had a long way to go in understanding Janani. She was completely sensible and matured at one time and an adamant child the other. She smothered him with so much love at one time and was too cold, the other. Vishnu tried to avoid any disappointments but it was not easy. He could not try to bring himself home at 5 everyday, it simply was not possible, he was working on a very important project and could not just walk out as soon as the clock struck 5. He could not take her calls when he was in a crucial meeting. He did however try to make up for those small shortfalls by showering her with surprise gifts, outings and truly being sorry, although she never tried to understand.

Vishnu and his parents slowly waited for her to understand, after all, it was only a few months and she was still the new bride and needed time to adjust. Janani's mom tried reasoning with her but it had not helped much. She was surprised and kept wondering what had changed her daughter, Janani had never been this way, she had never been possessive or obsessive, she was an easy going child.

With all this going, Janani became pregnant with her first child and both families' happiness knew no bounds. Kamala was running with wheels on her feet and kept feeding Janani with fruit juices and scrumptious meals all day. Vishnu tried to make it home on time and tried catching up with work in late hours after Janani had gone to bed. He took her calls even while in the middle of important meetings much to the annoyance of everyone present. Everyone made sure that nothing ever made Janani unhappy and went out of their way.

One day, Vishnu was asked by his project lead to travel overseas to oversee the project, which meant he would be away for 2 months atleast. Vishnu tried to avoid the assignment, as Janani was almost 5 months now and he wanted to be with her the whole time, but could not get out of it and had to break the news to his family. Janani's reactions was no surprise, only that she had taken it up a notch or two higher than the usual and was crying non stop. She did not want to listen to his promises that he would be back before the baby is due and his and her parents would take best care of her. He also offered to send her to her parents place if she would feel more comfortable there, but when she refused, he requested his in laws to spend more time with her here.

Vishnu left two days later and Janani hadn't spoken a single word to him. She had given him the cold treatment all the while and sent him with a broken heart. Vishnu was pretty upset but consoled himself that she would become alright as usual in a day or two and that he would call her every now and then and video chat with her every evening. Janani had other thoughts going through her mind and poor Vishnu had no idea.
