Watching Janani's face go from shades of rose to deep pink and then to red, was like watching the sun set. She was the center of attraction at the moment and is none other than the bride enjoying the last day of being single with her friends and they were teasing her. Both her hands had turned bright red on removing the mehandi and everyone who saw the bright red streaks teased about her unconditional love for her husband to be.

She had not known Vishnu earlier, but was delighted at the prospect that he was well educated, came from a good family and was a wonderful sport. She had spoken to him a couple of times over the phone and had instantly liked him and agreed to the wedding. She liked his family as well and they doted on her as the daughter they never had. There was no talk about money as both parents rolled in riches and Janani and Vishnu were the only children in their families.

The wedding was an elaborate affair, with only the best professionals from the entire town hired for various services. The wedding hall was decorated beyond one's dreams and looked like an 'heaven on earth'. The altar was decorated with the most beautiful rare flowers. Bright, colorful and dazzling crystal chandeliers hung from the ceiling. Satin multi layered drapes covered the walls. A huge arch way stood at the front of the altar decorated with the most exotic flowers. The wedding chairs stood high and majestic with the bright red fabric, golden throne and perfectly fit in with the royal decor. Even little details like chair covers were handled perfectly and the wedding hall looked none less than that of a fairy world.

They had hired the best vocalist in the whole city for the music and the best instrument team there was. There were no kids running around or people chattering and trying to catch up with their relatives and friends. Everyone sat quiet in their chairs extremely inspired and lost in the sweet music. The food was the most delicious one had ever tasted and the dining hall was full and bustling with activity the whole day. There were so many varieties in each course and the taste of every item, only surpassed the other. Food was served with utmost care and everyone ate to their heart's content. Nobody, not even Vishnu's great aunt, who criticized everything, was able to find any fault with anything at all.

While the entire wedding hall was bustling with activity in a feverish pitch, the bride was in her own world, a little nervous yet excited and happy to be married to Vishnu. She was being dressed up by the best beauticians around and they had started the make up session around 2am. Janani was feeling exhausted but the excitement kept her wide awake and she was just waiting for the minute when she would become Mrs Vishnu. She did not even realize that she was clad with a saree worth more than a lakh and gold and diamond studded jewels and all her thoughts were on Vishnu. Being a pretty girl herself, she looked all the more dazzling after the bridal make up. The happiness and glow that radiated from her made her look nothing less than a celestial and when she was made to sit next to Vishnu at the altar, they looked like a divine couple, just made for each other.

Janani did not really remember the time between when she was made to sit next to Vishnu and that very special minute of 'Mangalya Dharanam'. She had blocked it all and had been blissfully happy. The 'Mangalya Dharanam' and toe ring ceremony happened with the blessings of thousands of family, friends and relatives and she felt so happy and contended on seeing the mangal sutra on her neck and was smiling on seeing her parents wipe their happy tears and bless them.

Many rituals followed the wedding ceremony and she did not get a minute to speak to Vishnu yet. They were sitting in the dining hall and the wedding hall was almost deserted but for a few close relatives of the bride and the groom. Both of them were extremely exhausted but was waiting for the moment to talk to each other. Her parents and inlaws completed having dinner and rose up to leave the newly weds alone. Janani tried to open her mouth, but, words failed her and all she could do was give him a shy smile and look at her feet. Vishnu was no brave either and though he said small words like 'eat properly' etc, he could get no words out either. Their contended smiles said it all and no words were needed.

    ----- To be continued....
