Do let me know how you store the onions, garlic and potatoes?
Do you store in the same cover that you get in the shop or change to any other containers?
    Ideas would be most appreciated.

    Thanks
    Nitha

I usually remove them from their package into a plastic tray/container. I got those esp for onions and patato from Dollar store/Walmart.

Thank you.... I keep it in the covers. I get rotten fast. I was wondering if that is the reason.
Back in my place they hang it in wall. Lie this Additional Images - Kitchenworks Inc. Here I do not have space to hang it..

Nitha, you should keep onions etc in open so that air can pass through it , else if we keep in same covers they rot faster. It would be good to store them in baskets which allow air flow. Potatoes also I keep outside except when brought from cold stores , then I keep them in fridge also. Garlic can be stored outside. I usually peel and seperate cloves and keep in air tight containers.

Do you store onions close to potatoes? A friend told that keeping them near will make the onion rot faster.

Yes...never keep onions besides potatos...both will rot faster. I generally chop onions and keep them in ziplock bags. They last longer. garlic i peel and keep them in ziplock too

Yes that is True Nitha. Always store onions and Potatoes in different places. Not next to each other.

    Hi,
I never cut onions for storing. Cut onions easily attract gems and bacteria. I store in open basket.
Potatoes can be stored in the fridge also. If outside not nearby the onion basket. Garlic also, I never peel and store in the fridge. I will peel whenever I want which is kept outside.

So far I have been keeping both near to each other.
Kitchen cabinets doesn't have much space either. Garlic can be stored with onion, right.

GArlic if separated to cloves and kept in outside space lasts for long time. And onions once cut should be consumed soon, should not cut onion very long before cooking. This info was shared by a Dr.
