I am sure you are aware that Delhi will be hosting the Commonwealth games next year... But everyday, I read news in the newspaper of how far behind we are in preparing for the event. There are no proper hotels, sports village or stadiums in place for the event.
What do you think? Will we be able to pull it off or not?
i think our contractors are good at doing last minute preparations....if there is time at leisure they tend to take it easy and become lazy
i stay very close to the sports complex in pune...and when the commonwealth youth games were to be held here...there was an equal amount of chaos...the complete appraoch road was dug up and the speed at which they were going...it felt as if they won't be able to complete it in 2 yrs time...
when the time came closer...the speed picked and we could see day and night of work..but yeah they compromised on quality ...and things were done in hurry....and before the games...id say 90% of the job they could manage to do
there were issues within the stadium...the equipments failed to work as proper testing was not done ...and several such incidents ...but i still feel happy that the event brought the work to some conclusion ...otherwise it would have gone on for years ...
slowly they are improving the things around and now it looks much better...i hope delhi story is better than pune's
I think Renvem is right. The pace may now appear to be slow, but things will definitely pick up and things will be completed.... at least 90 to 95%. Many different agencies are working together and as far as Commonwealth Games are concerned, there is no shortage of funds. You just wait and see... things will definitely look up in a few months.
Delhi has also hosted the Asian Games twice, the inaugral Games and the Asiad 82. Things fell into place and the Games were a success. The only thing is that so much media scrutiny was not there... there were no countless 24 hour news channels always on the hunt for a news story.
I don't live in Delhi, so I don't know the real situation, but I just hope that things get ready on time. Such kind of events are very important for a country's prestige and image.
I pray to God that our country proves to be the best host of all times.
I do not think we r ready for the games b'coz we have not done anything for security . We lack an efficient security system b'coz of which we r constantly under the threat of a terrorist attack.

You know, this is the one event in India that I am literally scared of. Going by our previous record and the news in media, we are not ready for the games. Plus, the terrorism and infrastructural problems are looming over us like anything.
Ready for Commonwealth? We are not even prepared for a heavy rain in Delhi. Every time there's rain in the city, there are news of traffic jams and chaos in the city.Yesterday, the roof of IGI airport crashed due to winds. This is the quality of work they are doing???
You know na... Everything happens in the last minute in India. Don't worry, we will make the deadline no matter how fast do we have to run in the last few months before the games.
No we are not... even the Commonwealth games committed is panicking right and is planning to take the games away from Delhi. We don't have stadiums, pools, hotels, airports and basically anything to host the games.
