Delhi Dare Devils v/s Rajasthan Royals at SupersportPark, Centurion, Republic of South Africa On28th April 2009 Delhi Dare Devils have emerged as a mighty team and they were clashing with Rajasthan Royals who were the champions of 1st IPL but struggling to gain the same momentum in the 2nd IPL season. The Delhi Dare Devils who are in a cracking form lost their opening batsmen Gautam, Sehwag when they were just 25. Gautam hit a boundary and scored 8 off 6 balls while Viru 2 fours and a six to score 16 from 11 balls. Ab put up a massive 50 from 40 balls laced with 5 fours and a six, Dilshan’s 7 came from 10 balls with a four, D Karthik was caught and bowled by Warnie at 4, D Vettori scored 29 from 28 balls with 3 fours, Manhas is proving to be valuable to team Delhi Dare Devils. He performs when required and his score of unbeaten 23 from 16 balls with 2 fours and a six came at a crucial time, A Mishra was bowled by Kamran for a duck, P Sangwan unbeaten for 1. With 5 extras and loss of 7 wickets, team Delhi Dare Devils put up a total of 143 for the opposition team to chase with 5 extras. This is a zone where they need to work out and they seem to repeat the same mistakes often. A poor start puts lot of pressure in the middle order and they are not able to chase the target put up by the opposite team. R Quiney was plumb before A Nehra for 4, G Smith played a decent innings of unbeaten 44 from 46 balls with 5 fours, S Asnodkar was run out at 11, P Valthaty was out at 1, R Jadeja hit 16 with a four to his credit, Captain Warne was stumped by Karthik for zero, once again the burden of leading the team to victory fell on the shoulders of Yusuf Pathan. The master blaster of the blade set the fielders running haywire. He rained the ground with 6 sixes and 3 fours taking his total to 61 from 30 balls. Shane Warne had shuffled the batting order and it seemed to have worked in his favour. D Vettori has lost his charm of packing the opposition back to their dug out with his remarkable bowling. Team Jaipur won the match with a score of 147 with loss of 5 wickets in 18.3 overs with 10 extras. Royal Challengers v/s Kolkata Knight Riders at Kingsmead, Durban, Republic of South Africa, on 29th April 2009 SRK is flying down to Mumbai to cast his vote, does he need to return back to South Africa after his team falling flat once again in their performance. Well, his fans say ‘No’. Royal Challengers had a close 5 wicket win over Kolkata Knight Riders with Mark Boucher razing 25 runs off 13 balls. The slow pitch helped the batsmen score runs. Skipper Brenden McCullum of Kolkata Knight Riders was out on the very first ball! Gayle pulled 40 runs from 37 balls with 6 fours. B Hodge was looking dangerous but was plumb at 17 from 15 balls creamed with 2 fours and 1 six. S Ganguly faced 8 balls to score one run and gave away his wicket to P Kumar. Van Wyk was unbeaten at 43 with 4 fours from 35 balls. W Saha scored 21 from 14 balls packed with a six. L Shukla was plumb for 2. A Agarkar unbeaten at 6. Mumbai Indians v/s Kings XI Punjab at Kingsmead, Durban, Republic of South Africa, on 29th April 2009 Kings XI put up a very small total for the Mumbai Indians. 119 runs were not difficult to chase with some master blazers of the bat like Jayasuriya, Tendulkar and Bravo. R Bopara gave up his wicket at 6, Karan Goel at 12, while Sangakkara played a very good innings giving his team the required total. He put up a score of 45 not out from 44 balls laced with 2 fours and a six, skipper Yuvraj Singh was out at 10, M Jayawardene at 7, I Pathan at 7, Mota at 5 and Chawla at 0, R Powar run out at 10. Malinga curtailed the batsmen from taking runs giving away only 12 runs in 4 overs and taking 2 wickets too. The quick fall of wickets resulted with a total score of 119 for 8 in 20 overs with 17 extras. Fall of Wickets: 1-18 2-18 3-41 4-52 5-84 6-97 7-97 8-119 ling: Harbhajan Singh 4-0-23-1 D Bravo 3-0-24-1 Zaheer Khan 4-0-19-1 JP Duminy 3-0-23-1 S Tendulkar 1-0-7-0 S Jayasuirya 1-0-5-1 Malinga 4-0-12-2 With a small total to chase, all that team Mumbai Indians had to do was to save wickets from falling. A good start would ease out the match in few overs. Kings XI Punjab had some other plans, it was exactly like grabbing food from mouth of the opposition. They broke the ice by sending master stroke player S Jayasuirya back to the dug out with a duck, then another master player Sachin Tendulkar walked back to join Jayasuriya at the dug out with 1 run, Shikhar Dhawan was packed back to join the master players by Y Abdulla for 3. There was sudden silence from the Mumbai Indian supporters section. All lead players are sent back, it was time for JP Duminy to prove his mettle, he managed to save one side of the wicket while the other side was crumbling down. D Bravo scored 15 with a four and a six from 15 balls, A Nayar laced only one boundary and put a total of 15 from 15 balls, Harbhajan Singh, hit a four and was out at 6, S Tiwary unbeaten at 6. The play took a majestic last over suspense with Duminy and Tiwary at the crease. Duminy tried to hit a six but did not get the ball rolling, it instead went for a catch bringing the curtains nearly down for the Mumbai Indians. Will there be a tie, will there be another Super Over to conclude the results. There were constant chants of mantras and shlokas, some holding on to the pendents of the lord, some chanting loudly, some closing their eyes and praying, it could be either for Mumbai Indians or for Kings XI Punjab. Fans were at the edge of their seat, one could also see fiery Sreesanth of Kings XI who is sitting out due to an injury praying seriously! There was no magic wand, perhaps only Yusuf Pathan knew how to use it to perfection. The drama ended and Kings XI was over the moon with a three run snatched victory. Full credit goes to Y Abdulla’s last over, which did not let the batsmen score the required sixes and fours. Mumbai Indians lost the match by scoring only 116 in 20 overs with the loss of 7 wickets and 11 extras. Delhi Dare Devils v/s Deccan Chargers at SupersportPark, Centurion, Republic of South Africa, on 30th April 2009 Unbeaten Deccan Chargers of IPL Season 2 were biting the dust today. Delhi Dare Devils packed them back to their dug out with ease and Gilly tasted failure for the first time in Season 2 of IPL. DC struggling to make their mark against DD were unable to put a large total for them to chase. Gilly the lucky mascot of their team, skipper, master player of the willow, was out at 8 laced with 2 fours in 8 balls. His partner Gibbs was gone for a duck. D Karthik played a good supportive innings of 41 off 30 balls with 4 fours and 1 six before he was plumb to P Ojha, Manhas was unbeaten at 2. DD scored 150 / 4 in 18.4 overs. F Edwards created no magic with his deliveries in this match. Deccan Chargers exhibited poor fielding, batting and loose bowling too. They paid a heavy price for being lethargic in all tasks and Delhi Dare Devils won the match with ease. Rajasthan Royals v/s Chennai Super Kings at Supersport Park, Centurion, Republic of South Africa, on 30th April 2009 Rajasthan Royals is missing Shane Watson, their team effort is not up to the mark and are struggling to re-create the charm of IPL Season 1. The winner was playing against runner up team of IPL Season 1. Shane Warne won the toss and elected to field. With Mathew Hayden gone for 4 and Kamran Khan for 3, Suresh Raina had a huge responsibility on his shoulder. He has rained the ground with mighty strokes in the first season and time had come to prove it once again. Raina conquered the heart of million CSK fans by galloping the total of CSK and his personal 98 laced with 10 boundaries and 5 sixes off 55 balls. S Badrinath was also looking quiet destructive at 29 with 4 fours from 27 balls before he was stumped by Rawat off Warne. J Oram got out at 2 and Captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni was unbeaten at 22 from 19 balls with a six. Morkel was unbeaten at four off 1 ball. With 5 extras, CSK put up a total of 164 for RC to chase. All credit goes to Suresh Raina for her stupendous innings. Looking at the total put up by CSK for RC to chase there were whispers of RC stumbling all the way! The guess did not go wrong. R Quiney was plumb to S Raina at 28 from 31 balls with 4 fours, G Smith was knocked out at 2, with 2 down for 29 and a poor batting line up, Royal Challengers were in a bad shape. S Asnodkar hit wicket at 10, he has not been able to prove his batting skills this season, R Jadeja scored 37 off 33 balls with 2 fours and a six, mighty player of the willow, Yusuf Pathan was caught by Raina off Balaji at 20 off 13 balls with 3 fours. D Mascarnehas was out at 8, Skipper Warne at 3, M Patel at 0, S Trivedi at 2, M Rawat was unbeaten at 8 and Kamran Khan was retired hurt. One cannot be dependent on one player for a win. The wins have been directly proportional to Yusuf Pathan’s scores for Rajasthan Royals. It was a very poor show from RR and CSK was jubilant with the win as off 6 matches they have won only 2, lost 3 and 1 was cancelled. Rajasthan Royals scored only 126 losing all their wickets in 19.3 overs. Warnie and his team have to pull up their socks and play hard.
