Dear most Shan,

Hello, my dear friend… this is India… Here they are not concerned about the sports… They are concerned about how much that sport is going to fetch them money… The mathlab is money… and only money… nothing else… hahahahahahahahaha…

I agree with you, that the importance given to Indian men’s cricket is too much…

Though I don’t agree with Senorita, that Indian cricket has taken it to international heights… India was number Uno in hockey… It is the Kapils Devil’s world cup win and the Champions Trophy win in Australia which made Cricket popular in India… The BCCCI saw how much money they can make and understood the tricks of the trade… So now it is more a money minting business… and entertainment… Who is worried about the sports…

Now, where is Indian Hokey… Does anybody atleast knew the earlier achievements… nothing…

Come on my friend… Come to the real world… Wake up… Now it is only the media hype and money speaks…

Veda

Ofcourse this is biased towards women. It is my opinion that this can be changed by each and every one of us.
At my home I insist that we give equal coverage to men and women sports. Actually I do not have to insist as dh and ds appreciate women and watch their sports too.
But this has to start at home and each of us women ensure that our children realise this early it will change over time. just my opinion.
Thank you for writing on a very important topic. Am going to go straight to fp and nominate.. very proud of you my friend!
AC dear,

I wanted to bring it to this forum where we have women. it is not only in india, women cricket is not given that much importance as men's cricket.

I think we can put a stop to this bias starting at home.

thanks for nominating.

You are right....too much coverage is given by the media to the Men in blue.
I too am a great fan of the game......but do get irritated, when the media goes ga ga over them.

I think, it was last week...star news was repeatedly reporting about a old bunglow that Sachin Tendulkar bought. So what, if he buys something at some rate in some location.
And now they are after Shoib Akhtar....he is often seen giving interviews and opinions on this and that.

Same it was with Sania Mirza. The media never gave or gives half of that attention to chess grandmaster Koneru Humpy. I think she deserves more.

Thanks for bringing up this topic.

Bye
YEs saras, the media goes ga ga over d honi's hairstyle, ishant's shyness...and you name it and they do it. the bajji-srishanth episode was blown out of proportions by the media.

yes me to saw the bungalow. but i could forgive the media that as the week before it was the mukesh ambani's palatial 6floor residence.

Thanks for mentioning koneru humpy. her name eluded me. she definitely deserves more.

thanks for stepping in and cheering them. I remember reading a interview where the women's cricket captain had mentioned we also could be motivated from positive coverage by the media..sadly they just get one liners....

Nandu dear,

I agree that i am in india. yes they treat cricket as THE SPORT. but i think we also need to put a small change there...a collective effort could change.

Yes i remember the dharna by the hockey players.I feel the hockey federation if it comes out of the government red tape and comes to some private...maybe there could be a change a small

BCCI has the power and money to put its decision across the board. and we could see it in the issues that have cropped this year.

Nandu, i can say on authority, though i live in the suburbs, there are two girls who are part of the coaching team where my son goes. I wished my daughter would learn cricket but she says she does not like to play, and i cannot force her.

And I have personally seen a lady who was playing for the Indian Airlines from our generations, and there is a increase in the number of girls who are learning cricket also.

Tennis, the number of girls who were learning even before the sania entre in chennai was more..i have seen my cousins play up to the national circuit and could not move up from there.. and now get to see a number of girls learning tennis at my uncles sports academy.

but yes the number is still small...there should be more encouragement from the parents and the society and the boards.

Thanks for your views..

Its all politics.. Hockey players did a dharna to be noticed by going on a huger strike.. What happened.. nothing.. Thats the fate of other sports in India and I dont think it will change anytime sooner.. That too with the IPL fame and all

BCCI is the richest group out there.. They make money in and out... Women's cricket will be overnight famous if only BCCI notice and did something. But that never happens. Coz the mass is like that..And poor people, force their male kid to love this sport no matter what.... but the same does not happen with a female kid.. she has to choose some other activities.. but never these..

Actually how many of mom's here actually would have allowed your daughter to choose this sport or for that matter sport like hockey, football? I don't think many.. - Now that got to change..

I actually appreciate Sania.. Whether it was her glamour or her controversies, atleast she did bring attention to tennis.. A sport OTHER than cricket in India... A sport now kids have choice to choose and fall in love too.

Secondly, its a male dominating community in India.. An all in all women sport is never appreciated or welcomed, me thinks..

I didn't realize that there was so much bias in the sports media. It is a really a big shame.
May be more films on the lines of Chak De India should be promoted.
As for your post, Ac has promoted it to FP and rightfully so.
Congrats!

L, Kamla
Dear Kamla,

I thought this win should have noticed by atleast one lady...so this shows how men's cricket and ipl have really shadowed everything else.

This bias that i have talked is only the tip of the iceberg. there is so much that happens in the sports. it is not alone the media.

Films are not going to help much. the attitude of the people towards sports in general h as to change.

thanks a lot for stepping in

Cheers to all those women Indian cricketers who are making us feel proud. Hope every one here will support them and encourage. Its sad to hear all these bias.

Congrats to women cricket team for the Asia cup..
Senorita,

thanks for stepping in. Cricket was just a game before the 1983 world cup. EVen today we still study that HOCKEY is our national game.

But because of moolah cricket is hogging the limelight in all aspects.

There are accomplishments in other areas of the sports that go unnoticed.

Veda,

I knew you were going to write this when i wrote the main posts.

I agree with you on the cricket becoming cricketainment. and the sportive spirit has gone back bench.

I agree about the Indian Hockey, the foot ball. but the sad bargain in the whole issue is that there more cricket academies and schools cropping up and taking advantage of the craze.

I am in the real world.

I just wanted to talk about the media bias. the sad part of this story is the final was supposed to be telecasted by Doordarshan but it was not done. Forget the private channels, this partiality from the national channels also does not gel well.....I actually saw the match in Doordharshan sports.
