Olympic Fever

Looks like Olympic fever is catching up everywhere...jackie chan woos you to spend on visa to name one...

The official mascot "Five Friendlies". (those who have still not seen the mascot..check it out at ..http://en.beijing2008.cn/spirit/beijing2008/graphic/n214068254.shtml).
These cute little cartoon characters were designed to express the playful qualities of children. the names of the characters... Bei Bei, Jing Jing, Huan Huan, Ying Ying and Ni Ni, which, when put together translates to "Beijing welcomes you!"


But the other extreme of how parents are caught ...

The excitement over the upcoming 2008 Summer Olympics has some Chinese kids performing their own feats of daring and prompting concerns for their well-being. There's the 10-year-old girl who's father had her swimming in a river with her hands and legs in an effort to help her reach her goal of swimming the English Channel.

I wish there had been similar determination at our end for commonwealth 2010 games too. Delhi still is in no position to hold these games.
