Lightbulb Role Models

Every person we know plays some sort of role in our life. Is the person who is playing the role important? Or is the role that the person is playing important?

Should we love people for what they are? Or should we love them for who they are?

Did we start loving our parents because they were our parents? It was because of the bond that developed in those beginning years. They didn't choose us to be their children and we didn't get to choose them too. We loved them for who they were. Its the same with the siblings as well. Beyond that the extended family and the new set of relations through marriage are the people with whom we develop relationship on the basis of how they are related to us. Some of them blend in so well with the role they play making bonding easy the way it is with friends.

Things are so different with friends. Here is a bunch whom we love solely for the way they are. No expectations. No compulsions. Easy. Just the bond. No role playing involved though each friend is unique in their own way.

Otherwise I believe we are interacting with the roles. Roles that should have been models.
