Default Retirement

Retirement is a time for starting life a new and filling the
days ahead with pleasure too. Before my retirement I used
to think how i am going to manage sitting at home, how I
will pass my time, as I had been working for 38 years.

In the beginnning I used to feel good as my son and daughter
were there. Since I was at home my husband started doing
social work , so he was busy in that. Then later my daughter
and son got married and only myself and my husband were at
home. Since my daughter was in dubai I used to chat with
her for one or two hours so that time used to pass of and
then watch TV for sometime and take rest in the afternoon.
Like this my time used to pass but I used to feel I am not
doing anything worth. I was happy that I could cook a nice
meal to myhusband and look after him.

Since my husband has many friends as he is a social worker
he was invited for many marriages. I also used to attend
all the marriages. So some days were filled with special
moments and had excellent time, enjoying the freedom
and pleasure that were waiting for me. Made new friends.
Joined Bhajan classes. Started attending religious functions
in temples. Last year joined IL and now dont know how
the time passes when I log in to IL. Previously I used to
feel depressed that I have not become a grandmother yet
but now after reading each one's experience in IL I feel
my worry is nothing compared to other's. All this time my
younger daughter was here. Now she has also gone abroad.
Anyway now we have the facility of chatting and its a boon
that I know to operate computer. God has given everything
we should know how to uitilize it.We have to make ourlife a
wonderful experience to cherish and treasure forever.

Nice topic and you make good points, retirement is something we all look forward to but retiring from work does not mean retiring from life, we can do so much to help ourselves and others with the time on hand.

Kudos to your husband for doing all the social services.

Rightly said Viji.

You have summed up very well. God has given each his own merits where we have to realise them and make use of them.

Please accept my bow on net and convey it to your dh for rendering social services.

Dear Kiran

You are right that retiring from work does not mean retiring from
life. If we keep ourselves busy and help others also its a great
deed.

Dear Viji,

I can somewhat understand what you are saying though I am yet to experience work retirement.
After we two sisters got married my parents were left alone in the house , the only other person in the house is grandpa who is physically weak and stays in his room most of the time. my dad is busy with his office work but its mom who feels the emptiness in the house. though she has now learned to cope up with the situation by making friends, joining bhajan classes , reading books etc.

Very true maam, your words are an inspiration to others who are in similar situation.

I feel you have touched upon a very important topic.. and best of all I like about your reply is a big portion revolves around kids and you share so many with your husband.
I see everyday how couples drift apart and nothing in mind can be worse or a situation to lead a lonely life. They really have nothing even to talk about. Even when they go for walks the husband would walk half a mile away from wife.. something like that. I feel its very important to have this special rapport with your life partner and spouse so as to grow mature together at the same time maintain a little bit of distance too! So glad you wrote and my wishes for you to become grandmother quite soon:)

Dear Anandchitra

Your FB is always encouraging. My husband and myself go together
to attend marriages and to Ganpati temple on Tuesday and to
Navagraha temple on Saturday and to Guruvayurappan temple when
there is any special pooja or Narayaneeyam. Many people envy us
seeing us together and since we are alone at this age and some are
happy to see us as they say they have seen Parvati and Parameswaran.
Thankyou for your wishes to become grandmother. I am just waiting
for that promotion.

with love and blessings
