Mithila,
I totally agree with you and other ilites views..
'old habits die hard'..and this is one of them..
Give it some time...how long...lies in the hands (or the minds ) of the future generation, isn't it..for that we should be also have a 'fair' approach to the colours...what say!

Dear Mithila

I agree with u. Beauty lies in the eyes. Only being fair is not enough.
The person should have good behaviour as behaviour is a mirror in
which everyone displays his image. What is the use if the girl is fair
and not well behaved, cant adjust etc. A girl shoud have a good
heart, she should have inner beauty that is what is required. Some
who are dark still they are beautiful. If u go to see some are fair
but not beautiful. I dont know why people think that being fair is
enough. Natural beauty is the best. Now a days girls put too
much make up and for some it does not suit also. Girls are beautiful without any make up. Do u agree with me.
Hope I have not bored u.

My dear viji,
In some respects I agree with you that being fair alone is not being beautiful. But when you say that youngsters use too much make up,I think otherwise.Nowadays the young are very very intelligent and they know what suits them.Very few use powder and garish lipsticks. No,the young are sensible. It is the duty of the elders to shed their bias for fair colour being the best.Elders in this respect should learn from the younger generation.
Strictly talking about beauty, grooming is most important.Wearing the right clothes ,choosing the right colours ,choosing the right jewellery makes any one beautiful
I know of a mother and daughter. Both of them are vey dark but with excellent features.Such abundant hair! The mother would select sarees for both of them or may be both of them had the same taste in colours. They used to wear dull colours and sarees that would look as if they were dipped in oil.The mother had a rigid posture so also the daughter. The girl got married and went to live in her home with her in laws. After a couple of months I attended a wedding where I saw her ,Oh,my God was she not beautiful! Her MIL and her SILs had guided her in selecting the right colour and the right type of sarees and she glowed. She had lost her rigidness, thanks to her vivacious husband and she was a different person altogether.Where did this change take place?in Srirangam,my dear, where she lives with her wonderful in laws and a friendly husband.

Dear Mithila

I agree with u that the young are sensible and grooming is most
important. I was telling about some girls who do not know to
apply proper make up. Some have natural beauty and if they
put make up it does not suit them. My cousin's daughter was
fair and beautiful and during her marriage reception her uncle's
daughter put make up for her and her mil told her uncle's
daughter please remove the make up. My son has married her
for her natural beauty. If the make up is correct and suiting
a person then it can change their looks. Usually people who
are dark like dark colour sarees which do not suit them. If they
wear light colour sarees it gives them good get up. Nice to know
about the girl who is in Srirangam. Hope I have not hurt your
feelings.

Dear Mithila ma'am,

You said it right..beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder..

It has nothing to do with the colour or the texture of the skin or for that matter the structure of the body. Whats in the heart and mind.... makes us beautiful.

Yes, the stigma is still there....
I have seen mothers claiming that their child is so fair...when in fact it is not...I have always wondered why.....why give so much importance to the colour of the skin..its neither our achievement nor our failure...

Hello viji,
Please do not even mention the word that you may hurt my feelings. We are having a good discussion on a contemporary topic and are enjoying it.
Yes I do agree with yu that the art of applying make up eludes some people.

My dear saraswathi,
Even among highly educated people this fair colour plays a big role.Have you seen the film'naanum oru penn' I loved the movie and the music particularly the song'kanna karumai nira kanna'The song still rings in my ears, though the credit goes to the poet kannadasan and Mrs Susheela with her honey like voice.

its neither our achievement nor our failure...
I really loved those words. How I wish we could go on a campaign against this preference for fair colour with those wonderful words coined by you.

dear mals has said all i would have , so i would not repeat
one thing i'll add though
it is the family who can make a person handsome
as handsome is handsome who does
i'm comfortable with my looks and the credit goes to my family for never discussing looks as a negative, and there was a girl with me who was good looking but her sisters were better .and her family had drilled the inferiority in her by telling that she was the ugly duckling of the family, and she always hankered for compliments, as she was never sure of herself . and me on the other side never thought what others thought of my looks.
so i'd add that does the beauty lie in your own eyes for ur ownself
