Dear Saraswathi,

Idhu dhan sema nethi adi nu sollradhu.

Return gift becoming a compulsion...... didnt think of that.

Thanks for stepping in dear.

(I think there was a similar discussion started by shanthi in her blog sometime back)

I have heard of a certain group of people who have a grand celebration for the kid birthdays, and receive little gold ornaments as gift...now it becomes like what is/was done in marriages...Like they keep an account of what was given as a gift..so as to return the same kind of gift for the next birthday of the friends' child..Now doesn't it look like a compulsion more than a gift.

Dear Sweet heart ...

Please first apologise for the late Fb dearie !!! You know my state now.. So hope you understand dear..

First of all A big for this wonderful and thoughtful thread !!!

Yes you are very correct B'days are celebrated very grandly these days in many places... In their point of view its a happy gettogether with family and friends, and also the children are happy.....

As you have mentioned it will be good and great when we celebrate this in an orphanage.. with those special children..... Or else they can do these both also !!!

The parents attitude is fully very important in this issue.....We should also keep some points in our mind when celebrating B;days in orphange.. I think that it should not be like cutting a big cake in front of the spl children cause this has some averse feelings in their hearts.. It should be like having fun with all of them giving all of them proper food and some good valuable gifts...

And one more thing, we can't say that if we celebrate lavishly in houses the child would not have good character, it all depends upon the parents who bring the child.

Thankyou so much lalli dear... for this post..When I was new to IL I started a similar thread .. Im happy that my friend also has the same thought as mine :)

Dear Lalitha

I agree with u. It is better to spend that money in an Orphanage & give donation to temple.

Dear Lalitha,
I strongely believe "Charity begins at home".Helping a maid by giving food and clothes, giving food to the needy on road, sponsoring education all are gesture of helping tendency. There is no need to allocate a day to inculcate this feeling on a child but do it on a regular basis.I feel there is nothing wrong in celebrating loved ones birthday in a grand manner if they can afford. After all when so many are benefitted indirectly(caterers, magicians).

Dear BK,

Idhu manika mudiyadha kutram !!!!!!! Ithana late va fb podradhu !!!!! okkkkkkkk just kidding.

Let me tell you a secret, I was very apprehensive to start this thread because I know my abilities as a writer. Was worried seeing this if all the members would leave the community and Malathy would never spare me for that.

BK, let me make onething clear, it is not that rich people's kids are all spoilt......... that is not the issue at all...... I am against this kind of spending and I gave a different dimension or way to spend the same more meaningfully. See, one thing is when we invite people for parties we mostly call our friends who also led a comfortable life. They eat a little and throw away the remaining food. The same if we had given to people who need it will certainly go in a long way.

Thanks for coming in dear with your valuable fb inspite of your busy schedule.

rightly said, Lalitha..
The word 'SHARING' is slowly disappearing...let not hope so in future...
Children should be taught to share and how to share and what real happiness and fun is..
