Default Unforgettable day

On 9th August 2008 my neighbour uncle expired. People who come to the
world have to die one day. But his death cant be forgotten as he died'
when noone was at home and I and my another neighbour were the
first ones to see him.

This uncle was 75 years old and a gem of a person. He was the
Chairman of our Society. He has two daughters, one in dubai and
one in Bombay and a son who is in States. His younger daughter
was going to have Grahapravesham on 18th August for their new
house at Alibaug. Since she was busy at Alibaug Uncle left his
wife in daughter's house to look after the chidlren on 7th August
and since there was AGM of the society on 11th August he came
back home on 7th night. On 9th morning his wife spoke to him
and during the day thinking he must be busy they did not call
him. The servant came at 10 or so but noone opened the house.
She went back. Courier fellow also delivered the letter to our
neighbour.

Evening his wife and daughter called him on mobile and landline
but no response. So his daughter phoned me at 7.45p.m.and told
u open the house and see , Papa is not responding to the
phone calls. I went to their house. As I coudl notopen the
door told our neighbour to help me. Due to rain now the doors
are jammed na. The front door opened and the other door
was just closed. When I opened that I was shocked to see
uncle fallen down with his spectacles on. No movement was
there. I told neighbour uncle to go and see whether he is
breathing. He was scared I think. He called another neighbour
and they came. All were shocked. His daughter from Dubai
called , thinking that other daughter is calling I told her your
father has fallen down. She told me u call the doctor. We called
the doctor and he said he is no more and must be six, seven hours.
I did not know how to tell his daughter. She started crying and
said I will come. Same time her mother phoned and she was
asking whether uncle is not there. I told her u come home fast.
Elder daughter got some doubt I think she immdtly phoned her
uncle in Bangalore and told him u go to Mumbai, I think some
problem is there.

Elder daughter was saying one day before only he was telling
her that when we die our body does not come with us. We
shoud not have any attachments we shoudl do our duty.
I think he must have known that he is going to die. He always
used to read Bhagvad Gita it seems. He was a very simple
person. He had fever but he did not go to the doctor. His
wife was saying he never goes to Doctor.

All the neighbours gathered. Uncle had a peaceful death.
He was lying down in front of God as if he is doing namaskar.
By the time his wife and daughter came it was past 11 p.m.
Since his son was abroad theykept the bod in the Morgue.
Elder daugther came on 10th August and on 11th August
his son came and they did the last rites.

Uncle was gem of a person. Always smiling and whenever
I used to see him he used to ask how r u. His family felt
very bad as noone was there when he died. Mornign he has
cooked rice and boiled milk and had made dosa. While eating
dosa he has falled down. His wife was saying he must not
have fallen down. He must have got attack and must have
bowed down to God. For him its a good death . He has gone
directly to God. But for his family members it is very difficult
to forget that day. Though I am only theneighbour I myself
not able to forget that day and sometimes I feel as if he is
talking in his house.

Viji,
I do understand what you are going through now..
It is sad that Uncle has reached His feet when nobody was around..
My prayers to his family...

Similar incidents like the one my mom narrated..one lady, she came to visit her relative and went to have Darshan of the Lord, came out of the temple, and sat in somebody's front portion to have some rest...but alas, she passed away...nobody knew this and she had no contact no. or addresses, they took her body to the morgue..
Upon suspicion one of her children called their relative and as they themselves doesn't know where she is, came to the temple and also came to know what happened to her, went to the morgue and got her body and the last rites..
Another incident is like one gentleman went to the temple to have the darshan of Him and after receiving the 'tualsi theertham', he fell flat..

My heart goes to those families...who had to face this situation, unexpectedly..

May the neighbour Uncle 's soul rest in peace.
Its very interesting to note how death assaults us while we are all thinking we will be exempt from the clutches.
The family members might feel they were not there for this person during his time of need.. it may be.
Still this is one event that being born none can escape.
I am glad you remember the good about your neighbour. That is important.
God bless:)
