Question A women’s boss and her maid’s boss. Are they same??

When saranya woke up in the morning, the clock showed seven.”Oh My God, I am Late”,she said to herself while rushing to the kitchen. She felt some inconvenience while waking up but her scarcity of time did not allow her to attend to it.She realized it was headache and the temperature of her body shooting up mildly, while she was busily engaged in her daily chores which goes from preparing breakfast, packing lunch for her husband and children, and finally cleaning the kitchen and disposing the vessels for the maid to wash. But somehow she decided to go for work, mustered all her strengths and tried to manage her illness.

She waited outside the house with her son and daughter for school bus.As the bus approached near them, they got inside ,they turned to her with a warm smile and said”Bye mom” ,”Bye .Take care “,she replied nonchalantly.Usually she starts for work after sending her children and husband. She again thought for a while ,is in a dilemma .Finally she kept an end to the dilemma ,she ate the breakfast in a hurry and swallowed the tablet to temporarily arrest her fever. She took her handbag, came outside ,locked the house and handed over the key to her neighbor vimala.

She walked fastly, took long steps and reached the busstop.Though she managed to come to office, she was unable to concentrate on work, her illness was dominating. She finally went to the manager’s cabin to ask for permission. She was not even able to speak as her headache and fever was invincible and exorbitant. She asked softly,”Sir,I could not work today..”,before she could complete, she saw the manager’s gesture immediately ,unwilling to grant leave. He is not even ready to ask for the reason and continued”I am so sorry mam.On account of month ending, files are piled up and we are on the verge of inspection.I am sorry again”.she was unable to refuse as she know about the situation .She returned to the cabin in vain. She thought”Am I asking leave to go out for some function or relax? Why did not the manager think over it?”.She is so sincere and regular to the office . Even in cases of emergency and unavoidable situations, she will almost try her best to avoid absenting.

The clock showed six and she can now exonerate from the stressful scenario. She catched the bus and reached her house .She was almost tired. As she stepped inside, she was totally irritated .Things were scattered and it seemed the floor was not mopped and cleaned. She was unable to tolerate and the situation added fuel to the already burning fire. There are no clothes in the balcony and they are still inside the waste basket. She rushed to her daughter,”Shwetha dear, did the maid come today?” “No Mom ,the maid has not come today,She was invited for a function by her cousin sister, she informed vimala aunty in the afternoon and left out.I am just returning from my music class.I am so tired mom.” replied her daughter. She recollected the conversation she had with her manager in the afternoon regarding her asking for leave.

Bhargavi,
Nice one...showing the difference between the two bosses...
More over the employee in the office have no other choice, just to listen to his/her boss, after getting the permission, but the maid...in this case took leave of her own, no permission asked...nice contrast...

Thinking about the reaction of Saranya, will she give her maid the leave or shall talk like her boss?

Dear BC..

A good thought dear... Saranya cannot take a leave unless if her manager permits... So she was stuck with that rule..

But In case of her maid.. I hope most of the maids dont infrom prirorly abt their absence only few good maids do so....

I feel this is the difference between these two bosses..

Saranya can react like her boss to her maid... hoping atleast she will inform her absence :)

Dear BC

Welcome back !

This is a good post. My views are as below :

1.The situation is the same- two women wanting to take leave on the same day,but depending on which side of the table one is ,the perspective changes dramatically. While you are a leave giver, you think differently and while you are a leave taker suddenly your outlook changes !

2. Of course there are different responses to the situation. I recall a simple comparison of how human behaviour can be compared to the boiling of a potato and an egg.If you boil a potato for 15 mins , it becomes soft and pliable , but if you boil an egg, it becomes hard boiled inside. In the same manner when you are dipped into a sea of troubles you can choose to respond like a potato or an egg, which means you can become soft and understand other people's plight or like the egg you can become hard hearted and embittered and therefore become indifferent to other's problems.

3. This story also illustrates the lacuna in the old philosophy of behaving with others the way you would like them to behave with you. But my question is, what do you do when you dont like what other people are doing to you ?

Cheers and keep writing !

Dear sriniketan mam,
I guessed you will drop in your feedback,i am right. In all my blogs,i can surely find your feedback mam.I am extremely and devoutly thankful to you for your uninterrupted motivation. Thanks a lot mam.

Stepping back, you are right. In office the employee can only ask for permission, but the decision is not in his/her hands. If he was insisted to work,he has to.No other go.This is inevitable. Moreover the salary is decided based on the number of working days. But in the maid's case,we cannot imbibe any military rules. They run the family only on what we give.We cannot deduct any money as in the case of loss of pay in companies which is extremely a mean minded and cheap mentality.Coming to your last sentence
"Thinking about the reaction of Saranya, will she give her maid the leave or shall talk like her boss?,according to my point of view saranya will never talk like her boss.Because she knew and can very well understand the situation as she had undergone it....

Thanks for your good feedback...

BC

Hi dear brindha,
Thanks for stepping in dear..Definitely brindha, once we are out of our house and working for an organisation,we have to adhere to the rules otherwise we are out of the game. This is inextricable.
Here what i want to stress is that when women have to struggle and intimate before hand everything in the work place. But a maid is also just like the same women ,she is also working for some one.Saranya cannot behave like the maid in the work place.Practically speaking, the situation and work differs. An educated women is put under various pressures and responsibilities ,had to report to higher authorities. But the poor maid who depends on the meagre salary is helpless. But now adays times are changing.Maids are more decent especially in dressing etc.(I am deviating out of the topic).
saranya ofcourse can react like her boss. But i think our mind won't allow it.Basically we all have a soft corner for maids. But a good point is they have to intimate about the absence.Inspite of it,when they describe their difficulties we will really give up.

Thanks for your fb...

Yeah,i agree with you.Not only the perspective differs in the two cases. Two women wants to take leave on the same day but it accounts on the person who grants leave(The manager and saranya in this case) ... I repeat the statment said to brindha...
Saranya cannot behave like the maid in the work place.Practically speaking, the situation and work differs. An educated women is put under various pressures and responsibilities ,had to report to higher authorities. But the poor maid who depends on the meagre salary is helpless...

Definitely a man who gives money cannot behave the same way when he asks for money.
I admit that point. But do you think saranya will behave the same way as her manager when her maid asks for leave.I don't think so.Because, i repeat my same words as i said to brindha,we generally have a soft corner for poor people.A leave giver is different from a leave taker. But here too ,the situation plays a key role as the case with saranya. She adjusted on both roles as a leave taker and a leave giver.

The comparison is good. But dolor dear, with whom you have linked this story whether wilth manager or saranya?I go with you. There can be different responses based on human mentality which you have exactly conveyed through the story.According to my view, saranya will go comfortable with the maid. But if you take some kamala or mala for instance they would have reacted strongly to the maid.Because they would have felt "While we work even when illness strikes us,what the hell with the maid??.Very well said. There can be different unexpected responses depending upon his/her attitude and mentality.

My answer is the previous line.If i am stromg minded i can handle it well.If i rank average regarding stability of mind,i just ignore it.If a pesron is weak minded,it is really a deplorable sight. It matters on how we react well......
Have i atleast thrown some light on your queries/....
