Smile Suspension of the self “I”

"Suspension of the self "I""

It took me few hours to comprehend the meaning of the topic which I coined myself. Though it was serendipity, something echoed that it had an inner meaning. Yes, the echo proved to my conscience that suspension of the self “I” i.e. deferment of individuality can be achieved through deep devotion and true Love towards anything or anyone, especially the Divine existence.

Though the totality or the macrocosm can never be grasped, we can try moving towards the Supreme. This movement begins when we slowly lose the identity of the “self”. It eventually means we lose our ego, which is one step ahead and closer to the All Pervasive. We all have a place to live in and a family to be with and irrespective of our out door activities, we try to reach our house on time. Even if it is late in the night, we return to the place from where we have started. Likewise, we need to take a “U turn” in life, to reach the place from where our life begun, and this turn is a pathway to the Supreme. The eternal is always immortal and the mortal can never be ever-lasting.

A famous thought that strikes me appropriately now should be shared to get a better hold of the topic. “To be conscious we do not need a thought but for a thought we must be conscious. In every thought discover the source.” Being conscious, watchful and attentive of the bustles of our self can elevate us to the Prime most platforms.

Now, there seems to be an incongruity in our subject. Yes. First it is said that we should move away from our self (say, material pleasures more specifically) and it is followed with “consciously watching the activities of the Self”! No, absolutely no contradiction. Let us take an example (that which is simple to me and in my language of comprehension). When we talk there is sound. When we do not talk silence prevails. Silence is there all around us and only when we understand that silence too forms a part of our talk; we can understand its vastness and completely filling nature. Likewise, absence of darkness is only light. Just because the room is lit with a candle, it does not mean there is light in the room. The absence is not felt. It is ignored many a time.

Thus is the example of we moving away from our Self to reach the Divine. Only when we closely watch the self and its activities we will know whether we are in the right path. Let loose it will fly like an inflated balloon. Will rise up in the atmosphere till there is air inside, when pricked or disturbed by any external force, will fall down like an inverted rocket! The suspension of the self here is just a temporary deal and this does not connote annihilation.

Ramya
You never cease to amaze me with your insights and wisdom beyond your times.. I bow to that wisdom in you.
You have written on a topic I am striving to learn.. so much better than I ever could.
Please when you find time, do read the books by Eckhart Tolle especially the New Earth. If you have already read then you know how well he has elucidated on this and more.. Thank you dear for writing..

Frankly speaking, I called my mom and dad that day afternoon to read my "Umaachi and I" article and my mom made me wait for about fifteen minutes if am not wrong !! And I should owe this article to the patience gifted by the Supreme self. And i still wonder whether it was me who typed this article withinn such a short time !!! I take hours together to pen down even a single line of mine as corrections and emotions run faster than the pen or rather the clicks !!!! :) Just felt liek sharing !!!

My lovely dearest Chithu sis,

You always amaze me with your quick reciprocative attitude !!! I truly salute the enthusiasm and support that you show case towards each and every member here !! It will take ages for me to match your speed to jump posts; accuracy when it comes to leaving a feedback and the dearness when it is aimed at encouraging the post and the writer !! You are simply the best Chithu sis !! Many might feel bad to express online when it comes to leaving comments or praising others; but I guess, our IL has crossed (rather transformed) all superstitial borders !!!!! You are the best

To accept frankly I have heard about Tolle but never have got a chance to read his creations. I shall definitely try to get hold of the New Earth; but if I fail, pl do help me to get an e-version !! If you can :):)

My dearest Srini ma'am,

Very happy that I could attract a handful feedbacks here, those in themselves led me to further introspections these days !! Thank you very much for your valuable (and always awaited feeback:))

I had to read re-read and re-read the examples quoted myself as there arose many doubts within me. Though this article took birth within a very very short span of time, I wanted to post the same before I could forget any of the pictures that flashed across my mind !! Hence here I am with the valuable most and attractive responses :)
