Default Olden Times and Present Times(Kaliyug)

Life has changed so much compared to olden times. I have heard about my
grandmother's time as my grandmother has related to me about their life
that time. In those days a girl was married at the age of 14 or 16. Girls
never used to study much. In young age they are married and that too in a
joint family. Those days husband and wife never used to stay alone.
Some people were doing hotel business, some used to have fields and
many were rich. Some were there whoused to struggle also. They used
to do good work , take bath in the river, so they used to feelhungry
and eat well and were all healthy. People used to have vegtables and flowers
grown in their backyard and used to cook those fresh vegetables only.
Since it was a joint family each member will be given different kind of work
and they used to share their work. Everyone was happy those days and
healthy. The Man of the house used to bring th emoney and the Lady
used to take care of the house and manage the house economically.
Children were taught good culture.

Later the men started working in Office. Slowly the joint family system got
reduced. Women also started working but they used to adjust with
their inlaws. Parents used to see the alliances and if a man had good job
they would get their girl married to that man.

At present there are more of love marriages. First a man is well qualified
double degree, has good job. Before marrying he buys a house. Now a
days whether u want or not u get phone calls saying whether u want a
loan. Then he sets up his house with furnitures, washing machines, and
all that is needed for a house. Only he has to get a suitable match, that
too well qualified, some want double degree, she should be working but
also shoud know how to adjust and some want their wives to be economic.
She should make the house a home. Now adays after marriage they
want to live separately. In some case the parents themselves buy a flat
for them to live separately like us. We also before my son's marrige bought
a house for him half we paid and half he paid through loan. After marriage
he bought a house bigger than the previous one. But present times some
women do not adjust. There are women who are adjustable and give respect
to the elders and look after their in laws astheir own parents.

Now u dont get fresh vegetables. So people have health problems. Olden
days people used to eat everything fresh and used to be healthy. Noone
used to hear about Diabities. Now every second person has Diabities
Heart problems. bloodpressure. People die at young age. Children are left
in creche and in some cases servants take care of them In my case also
since I was working I had to leave my children with my servant. Used to have
problems with her and used to come running home. Those days there were
no phones also at home.

You need 3 Ds , Desire, Determination and Dedication to reach height
but it all starts with 4th D, Dream. So some of the present youngsters have all
the above and are successful in life if they get a good partner and have their
parents blessings and God's blessings.

Dear Viji
I am thoroughly enjoying your excellent thread here.. Due to time constraints I had missed this earlier.. You have written a very good comparison of the change in times.. with respect to man and woman and then other factors too.
My grandmothers have also told me about their early married years.
And like you say todays many girls do not want to follow the traditional ways we have. Though sad it is true. Your last para is the crowning jewel.. Thanks for writing a really good one.. makes me think .. and I am glad I got to read it too though belatedly!

Dear Viji,

Whatever you have said, they are very true ! About 4Ds - Very very correct, I am realizing it now !!

I was remembered my Late Grandfather's words, they used to pick sticks (sulli), they have to sell in the market and earn for their living,as he lost his father and mother at his tender age of 5. How he used to lead a life with Rs.20 as his monthly income and running a family of 10 people - Joint family, brother's family included with his family. How they struggled to give good education for them ?

Nice write up...
With love,

Dear Gowri

Thanks for your FB. In olden days people used to live in joint family and they
used to get help from them. Rightly said those days people used to struggle
a lot so they knew the value of money. Now a days people get good
education and get good salary but they dont know the value of money. Not
all some of them.

with love and blessings.

Dear Viji,

Liked the topic very much.

Till we moved to Pune we were in a joint family...not to big but my in-laws were with us. Now they keep coming to Pune in between.

I really miss that togetherness.

About the 4 Ds. I feel even if you have it...but still sometimes you have to forgo everything because of the circumstances.

Love roopa.

Dear Viji,

A good thread, thought provocking and true.

But even if we want to , we cant go back to those days, when girls were married young, had kids young, and were not very educated.

And we cant live without the modern gadjets like a mobile computer and washingmachines too.

And it is good u bought a separate house for yr son.these days sons are as good as daughters, they go away to live in their own nest with their wife and children.

In a way better, as their thoughts are so different than ours.So they are better separate.

And today hardly any lady wants to he a homemaker, so both work, and who wants to take care of the babies, let them decided a cretche or a servant.

But yes, those times there was more love and bonding than today, I agree.

Regards.kamal
