Arrow Whose fault is it anyway-Your's, or mine ?

It was the year 1972. the Dept.of Political Science headed by the Principal Ram Joshi of SIES College-Sion, consisted of ten students ONLY!

So exit we could anytime of the day and any moment, through any exit. That was the freedom given he gave us all. Yet what pulled us to those abstract political theories of Bentham, Karl Marx still puzzle us. Could that be the towering and charming personality of our Guru? He knew all of us so well.

On a certain day he entered the lecture hall and went straight to the balckboard. Wrote two points saying-
1. Raja Ram Mohan Roy encouraged widow remarriage.

2. Minority thinks, Majority is only a sum total of numerals
It was for us to elucidate the statements. The discussio started with one of our leading intellectuals-Bhanushali by name. He said "Sir,it is - - - - - - -.. He was interrupted with a smile by our sir"Bhanu pl.I don't want a permanent holiday.

Now it was the turn of our hard working Vijayalakshmi(presently an IAs Officer) to
speak. Poor vijaya half heartedly spoke out of compulsion. And we all had to say something.

Then came the turn of my professor. He stood like any one of us and said "Why will a widow REMARRY? Widow marriage speaks for itself. it shows the logic behind behind a widow geting married again.

But sir, all of us say so we replied. WHOSE FAULT IS IT ANYWAY?
Yes, we do say and that explains the principle behind Edmund Burke's theory of 'Minoritiy thinks and majority is only a sum total of numerals.

Such aws the enigma of my Guru. Even the most abstract terms were handlded with graet ease. I stil remeber his definition for the term 'Pain'. If we try explaining it is difficult. All of us do undrego pain. Do you agree with me?

Dr. Ram Joshi completed his tenure of service as the Vice-Chancellor of Mumbai University. kanaka

Please ignore my earlier remark.

I am sure now that I misunderstood you. Let me read the post a few more times before I respond. Sorry for the confusion.

All the best.

The behaviour of your class proves Burke's statement. But you were lucky to have a teacher like Dr.Joshi. Such cerebral teachers are hard to find now.

Dear Kanaka,

Good post. You know, I studied in SIES, first year Science in 1971, and I did not have a good time there.Of course the college was not at fault for this.

There were 5 rows of Benches, and 3 were for girls and 2 for boys, and boys and girls sat separately. My friends in St Zaviers used to tell me of girls coming to college in mini skirts, and sitting with boys, and here the girls were of very shy nature, mostly South Indians, so my friends used to make fun of me.

The professors were very good, no doubt. But got tired of eating south Indian food every day.

So u were one year after me in the college.Regards.kamal
