Default My first experience in making Coffee

Dear friends

When u read this I know u allwill laugh. You all know that we South Indians make filter coffee.

First time when I prepared dikaction( I do not know how to spell it) I thought u have to put for each person 3 spoons of coffee powder in the filter. My cousins were coming home they were four of them. So I put 12 spoons of coffee powder in the filter and put water at the top. I was staying with my brother and sis in law. I could have asked my sis in law how to prepare it but my ego did not allow me to ask her. After sometime the filter could not hold more water so all the water came out.

Actually in my young days I was not so fond of cooking. So I did not bother to learn. Sometimes I used to see the recipie book and make something. Once I tried to make Groundnut halva. I should have tried with few groundnuts but I took more amount of groundnuts. I had to grind the groundnuts. That time my elder sis in law was pregnant. She could not stand the smell of groundnuts and she started vomitting. I had to leave the groundnut halwa in half way only.

......12 spoons of coffee powder....

It is always funny with our first goof up in the kitchen...

I remember, once I happily declared that i will make decoction coffee...Marched to the kitchen and ended up putting instant coffee powder(I think it was nescafe/Bru instant coffee powder) in the filter....As soon as I poured the boiling water into it....it immediatly came down...and I wondered, why does amma wait for the coffee to settle after putting the decoction...its so quick and easy...........

Dear Brindha

Thanks for your reply. Now when I think back about that day I feel like laughing.
I made coffee in my house so it was ok. If I had done in in law's house it would not have been good as in my in laws house all are experts in cooking. My sisters in law did not go to work so they had time to do cooking and learn everything. Even my brothers in law and my husband also know to cook.

Dear Viji mam,

Very sweet 12 spoons..

Ur post reminds me of preparing henna for hair,we usually prepare tea decotion with 1 teaspoon of teapowder and thn soak the henna powder in it whole night.Everytime my mom used to prepare it,so once she asked me to prepare henna ,,hahahah I added half of the tea powder packet and at that time my mom was watching some soap opera So, I innocently went near her showing packet(250gms) n saying´´Amma I added half,do u want me to add more´´Poor my mom..couldnt control her anger..of seeing her Favourite tea powder got wasted..

Hugs,
dg..

Dear Viji,

Even last month when I was at Mumbai (motehr's demise). it was my portfolio-making coffee. My maternal uncles cannot be satisfied so easily. They will never allow my sister to make coffe. It was always my mother aking coffee.
They have never had tasted my coffee. Last time they were so surprised that they had to say"You excel my sister. kanaka

I like the line...my portfolio-making coffee...

Last year when my FIL passed away...it was mine and SIL's 'portfolio'....to make and serve coffee...we must have served atleast 1000cups in 2-3 days...
But it was instant coffee...
After my first 'adventure' with coffee making as mentioned in the previous post here....I have now become a good 'coffee maker'..hee hee
