Nice thread AC! I was one of the many of my generation to be curtailed and suffocated lot, by a 'tyrant' father. My maternal gran'ma was the one who inspired and motivated us, the four siblings.I had already stated about my artistic pursuits while posting my paintings.

For long I had the impression that I had been cheated out of my passion by fate. But never did I imagine that I could make a profession out it!(My dad used to always say whenever he saw me doodling 'padam varaiyaradu, vayathukku soru podadu', but I could get some money for my pictures, before his life time.Don't think that I challenged him then,... till he breathed his last,..80's... we were terrified of him.)I believe that we choose to become what we really want to despite the hurdles. Not many choose to do so due to various compelling reasons.I am glad I did!

Boy, sunkan, how I would love to hear you sing!Kudos!

Thanks AC for the opportunity shed the 'baggage'!

I was never pressurized to take up a subject. It was my choice. Parents just backed me.
Then I got into a job which again was what I liked....though the pay packet was a little less initially.
Then after marriage, when I moved to Gulf, to Kuwait..the job in a school was not much of my choice, but it just happened...nevertheless enjoyed doing it....My dh too never forced me regarding this.
Now after some relocations, I have decided to take a break...a big one...with other priorities in mind. So, I am relaxed and enjoying it.
I just hope and pray that it continues to be always by choice and not out of some pressure....becos out of pressure, maybe we bring out the best...but it could be to stressful.

bye
Saras dear
Best wishes and good luck to you. You are definetly one of the few to be blessed.

When school seniors graduate from college here, these questions have to be addressed by them. I am always surprised by the number of people who seem to know exactly what to do.

When I was growing up it used to be that most children would choose to be an Engineer or a Doctor.
Not being able to get into one of these positions would surely be a setback in making a living. So the pressure used to be on to get into these colleges. Children used to cram for weeks on end in preparation for an exam. Parents would also put undue pressure on the kids.

What you do for a living, should tap into your inner self and contribute to society also. But how many of us do not have the luxury of these kind of facilities whereby we are able to do what we truly desire.

Many get into a profession based on convenience or the pay scale is attractive or they were recommended thereby someone.

What are your thoughts on this? Are you someone who was very clear where you wanted to work , what type of work you wanted to do? And are doing it today or till you retired. Or did you come by chance into your profession? Do share here.

Dear Chitra,

As they say, or used to say, A barber’s son will be a barber.Same is the case with me.Dad being an exporter, I too became an exporter, bcs Uncles used to import from us, and I used to see the cost and selling price, and also go and see at the other end what uncles used to sell for.

So I fell in this line bcs of Dad.But Dad wanted me to study higher and do something, but this kamalji wanted to be a businessman, so be it.

And to this day I don’t regret the decision.I got to travel all over the world, courtesy the Expenses deducted from our accounts, and well u get to meet models all the time,Chitra.HAHA.And when there is kamalji, wine, and models, life can never be boring can it ???

So u can say I am a drifter in life, I got into the family business, and so credit to me, all thanks to my Dad, who put us all brothers on their feet, giving each some capital, a house and an office, and getting us decently married from his meager means.

That’s all your Honour, I rest my case Judge Chitra.

Regards.kamal
