| Today the U.S.Open Golf Championships Ended with Tiger Woods winning. He played an extra day with Rooco Mediate in playoffs to win. It could have gone either way but went Tiger's way. Watching the French Open, when Safina played Dementieva it was tough and could have again gone either ways but went Safina's way. Again here all these players are so talented. Hard working of course. Have what they need to win. How does one of them win? Yes only one player can win. But when does the tide turn? So does it mean that its because of talent or luck. Does luck play a part in one's victory. How large a role does it play? I think one definetly needs Luck to win. In fact I think one needs Lady Luck to shower on one to win. Talent alone will not get you anywhere. Now this could be applied in any field; studies, dance , music and more. However much anyone is endowed with talent can one survive with just that and hardwork.? Or does one need luck also added into the above mix to win? What do you think? |

| Hi AC, I PERFECTLY AGREE WITH U....I had always thought that one has to do ones best and not blame it on luck....But i have learnt that luck does play an imp role..i too saw tiger woods yesterday and the winning shot was luck ony...it could have gone otherwise also...so do your SUPERB BEST and then pray to god for luck..would be a good approach,i think.... mindi |

| Dear Chitra, That is a nice question u have put.Welll i feel one needs talent and lady luck both. But i feel one must be hardworking in his job, always honing his skills, and upgrading them, and never be afraid to lose. And when that final shot as played, must have been played fearlessly, like coming to the net as they normally do. if Tiger woods won, it must have bben a lot of hardwork that had gone in the practice too, which not many notice, we think he is lucky. But yes luck too is needed i feel. Regards.kamal |

| Agree with you AC, You need loads of talent to come up..Continuous hardwork is a must to the skill that one has. But luck plays its own important part...everyone has talent in one or the other field...but he needs LUCK to have that talent to be identified or recognized at an early stage to develop.. I read somewhere a sportperson, saying, that maybe luck cannot take an average athlete to the gold medal....but certainly bad luck on that day can remove the prospect of winning. The winner is certainly best on the day..but not best necessarily over time... I agree with the above lines expressed... This applies not just in sports field...but almost everywhere... bye Last edited by Saraswathipv : 16th June 2008 at 11:32 PM. |

We have been watching a lot of sports on t.v. lately..Its the season I think! If you see the basketball finals, the last few seconds make a difference as to the winner. Both teams will have the same score but only seconds make a difference. Surely its LUCK dont you think?! |

You always say it right.. the hard work. they make it appear easy on t.v. but these players put in countless hours of hard work! Like you say always honing one's skills.. But the final shot I feel luck favors the winner.. When the rest of the playing ground is equal.. Luck makes the difference I think:) |

When we hear of such incidents concerning school students.. its sad but true. Now justice could have been overlooked easily too.. But atleast they found out before its too late.. Sometimes you hear of good students not getting into good colleges and not so good ones making it thru.. so I feel LUCK is an element to reckon with! |

Such a nice quote from you.. bad luck on that day can remove the prospect of winning... OMG.. just what I see on t.v. most competitors work very hard and maybe equslly talented.. but when one wins.. you tend to wonder did luck play a part? the crucial part? |

| hey AC, I too watched the Tiger woods shot in the news. I media goes ga ga over the person when he comes in from a 187(??) position and becomes the new hero... but the hard work, the dedication does not come into the forefront. I wish the media does not hype over the one minute of fame and the prize money. instead bring in news of the hard work and the number of hours these players put in to reach there. why i stress on this is because, I feel somewhere down the lane, are we misleading the new generation there is easy money and fame. Again after, the talent, the ambience of the day, the mind set up at that particular moment, the pressure also plays a part, and above all let us say there is a very very small percentage of luck. Once, I heard a singer answering a question on her success of her concert, and she said, though we rehearse non stop and perfect ourselves for the concert, once we are in front of the audience, there are otherthings that could make/break a concert. My 2 cents ![]()
