Chitra, I find that those who place obit ads take great pains to select mournful looking photographs as if the dead are ruing the fact that they are dead.

Dear Balajee,
Kudos to you! So soon you have captured the attention of Ilites with your witty post. Mr Varalotti has proposed it for FP means it is not a mean achievement. Keep posting ......more.
I too used to go through obits when we used to buy The Hindu just to check any known person has kicked the bucket, but now we have changed to Times of India and. Times has not yet reached the level of Hindu in obits. Perhaps it will take time. One more thing, people do not realise the good qualities of a person when they are alive, but come to know only after their death. Even great men are not exception to this rule.
Love,
PS

TOI obits are good. In fact when it comes to hujour quotient on the obits page, TOI scores over Hindu.

Dear Balajee,
I was reading your post. You write so well, packed with humor even with a blog on obit Kudos to you.
Yep, i'm also fond of reading obit column more for the funny things(unintentional). How about 5- 6 ads for a single person if at all hes a big boss of some XYZ company? And one more thing, sometime people tell/talk all nicest things about the departed soul on this obit column, i wonder, do they really mean them?
Anyways, Great post from you.Enjoyed it throughly

Normally the big boss of some company particularly if he happens to be the owner has a big ad on the front page (at least in Hindustan Times and Times of India. Obit pages are for ordinary mortals). No bad poets. It is nothing less than lord Krishna for him. Thye big bosses big photo will always have the same cliched quote from Gita below it the one about sould being immortal!!:

Dear Balajee,

That was one of the funniest posts I have read

a birthday cake to the soul resting in his abode hahahaha....
I too like reading matrimonials - in the minimum space booked try to fill all adjectives fair, beautiful, god fearing homely and what not?!!

thanks for the great post.

regards,
anu

Anu tks. If newspaper can reach the heavenly abode with obit notices, there surely must be a courier service which could deliver birthday cakes there?
