Aruna, that is the idea many people hold. It is like your sins being washed away by taking dip in some polluted "holy" river.

Dear Balajee,

That is really great.... I couldnt control my laugh....

But it is news to me that once we do the kriya for the departed people properly then they will go to heaven.... Wow... that is really great....

I liked you last line.... people's belief on the newspaper to take their message to the next world... hahahahahahahahaha...

My concept is always... to take care of the people when they are alive and keep them happy... rather than all these ads etc....

very humourous article Balajee ! Enjoyed reading.

I also read the obit. ads and remembrances and also always wonder if that "dear Appa" or Ramawami or Kaveriammal in the photo is really sitting up there somewhere reading that shraddhanjali. ( and sometimes the Aacchi in the photo will look like she may not know english, and these people here quoting Milton and Shakespeare !)

Balajee,
Even one can attain moksha, when he utters God's name at that crucial time..
maybe that is the reason for the overcrowding over there....people calling their sons or daughters or any other relatives or friends name, which might accidentally be His name..

Dear Balajee,

That was one of the finest pieces of writing I read in the recent past. And when I mention writings, I include my own. When it comes to my case, let me make it clear, that I am different from your lady friend in only one way. She inflicts her writings on her friends in the Net. And I inflict them on 20000 plus ILites, with almost a mathematical regularity.

I am myself an ardent obit reader. In fact my Dad wanted to switch over to Indian Express. But I said a strong no for I am fond of the two lines obits in the sports page of Hindu. I do browse through Tamil dailies for obit notices and once I asked an innocent doubt and lost a friend. He had inserted an obit notice for his uncle which read, " We are sad to announce that Mr.So and So has attained "shivaloka padavi" ie.reached the abode of Shiva."
I asked him if your Uncle had reached Shiva's abode safely without any hold-ups or technical snags, why are you so sad about it. Shouldn't you be happy?"

My friend's sense of humour was not large enough to accomodate this rudeness.

I really enjoyed this piece Balajee. And much against your suggestion of anonymous FP I am openly nominating this piece to be considered the finest post of June.

Love,

Hi Balajee,
You had me chuckling there... Yeah.... Heaven must be pretty jam packed, the way everyone settles down in Heavenly Abode! My Mom reads the obits in the the Hindu first... that's the surest way of getting updated on Tam -Brahms who push up daisies!

Dear Balajee,

What a fine observation! Not only do you enjoy reading obits, you have now seen to it that all of us are infected with this malady with such a humorous twist to the otherwise depressing page of the dailies. I admit that I am not given to reading it, but your write up has set me thinking that I have been missing on some heartfelt poetry and prose!!
Seriously, enjoyed the fine sense of humor and you have without doubt joined the eminent writers of this forum judging from the responses and the nominations to FP.
Congrats!

L, Kamla
