Default Was William Shakespeare a Jewish woman in disguise?

A very interesting news doing the rounds is ' Was William Shakespeare a Jewish woman in disguise?'. If this is proved it will be the biggest literary hoax ever pulled off or the worst example of a man stealing a woman's glory. It also will be the actual trend setter for 'Mrs. Doubtfire or our own Avvai Shanmugi with the genders changed.

Amateur Shakespearologist John Hudson is not the first to question whether the actor William Shakespeare was actually the author of the body of work we've come to know as his, but Hudson is the first to suggest that the true author was a Jewish woman named Amelia Bassano Lanier.

Of Italian descent, Bassano lived in England as a Marrano and has heretofore been known only as the first woman to publish a book of poetry ("Salve Deus Rex Judaeorum" in 1611) and as a candidate for "the dark lady" referred to in the sonnets.

The theory rests largely on the circumstances of Bassano's life, which Hudson contends match, much better than William Shakespeare's did, the content of "Shakespeare's" work. But Hudson has also identified technical similarities between the language used in Bassano's known poetry and that used in "Shakespeare's" verse. And he has located clues in the text - recently noted Jewish allegories and the statistically significant appearance of Amelia Bassano Lanier's various names in the plays - that he says point to her as the only convincing candidate for the author of Shakespeare's work. Dear Gita,

Sometime back the controversy was around works of Kaildas related to Shakespearean plays.
In South India people have questioned the genuinity of Swati Thirunal kirtanams. They claim the compositions were a creation of another person. If Iam right the authorship belongs to one poor Nambuthiri.

Again it was argued some time back that CV Raman cannot claim 100% credit for his theory of 'Raman Effect". kanaka

Dear kanaka,

You are right. From time to time we see these controversies rising. Yes, I have heard that Sir CV Raman actually took credit for his colleagues' work like that of K.S. Krishnan. In Shakespear case his life was shrouded in mystery and this recent revelations get credence.

Thanks for visiting the thread although I am a newcomer here.

Love,

Geetha,
We don't know what to take in as true or just throw away these kinds of news as hoax...
Maybe it is a form of 'publicity'...who knows...or maybe it is true...or maybe it is done on purpose to damage the popularity...

Dear sriniketanji,

What you say is absolutely true. Only difference in these matters in western countries and India is that there people can easily go to court and claim big compensations if some one's name is maligned.

Thanks for visiting the thread.

Its been for ages people talking about who this character is :)

I guess it might have rooted because many of this plays have women disguised as men...

Also may be because his sexuality is another debate going on for ages... it seems he had interests not only in women but also men...

hmmm... who knows..

I like his/her plays and sonnets... I enjoy his/her creativity !!
