I know you are amused but yes one gets to tear the potatoes you know.
Yep it is the tear In the inner wear of our men, I would just wait for things to turn
This way and I will signal my kids come on and they would catch on, we would wait for the appropriate moment, and just as he is busy talking with my mom, I would go near and one little finger into the gap and one pull and it would give way..

Hhahahahaha very good one.
I use to do this with my dad. He use to have so many holes in his banians and wouldn't want to change it for a new one. I use to get very irritated with those holes so use to go and put my figures into it and make them big or sometime use to tear them...........reading your post this is what i remembered and started laughing........
Even now he is still the same so whenever i go to mom's place mom will tell me Aruna there are many so only you can make him change his banians, as all are very frightened of him will not dare to tell him anything.
For DH in case will find even a small one will take and throw it, or use it for wiping as you know banian material is so soft and good for wiping glass items............hehehehe

Join me too...but we don't tear....cannot make my hubby throw away the banian so when he gives it for washing, i either throw it or keep it for cleaning....
But there is another name for that hole in our house...it is the 'postoffice'.
