| hello The matches were always aamir khan style On the streets Out in the open ground with wood cut into bats And quite often a battered ball. My brother always had a leg for cricket. He just loved it and would have loved to take it as a profession. But my father was not for it. He kept yelling at my brother whenever he went out with a bat. Oh no not that mattai again. How will you keep up with studies. And what about the scorching sun. who will pay the doc for all the summer boils as you play in the sun. all the same my brother always found a way to run to the playground whenever my father was busy with something or other. My brother was an all rounder. He still is playing cricket all of his fifty years. Ya he is fifty but the way he used to play he must have been playing it right from his crib days. He did bat every single ball that were bowled by his friends for a six. This sure was applauded (??????) by our neighbours when they shut their windows shut, changed window panes often. Stayed away from windows lest the ball break their nut. Or started yelling on top of their voices that had little effect on the boys playing on the road. Ultimately the neighborhood took a common decision to change the glass window panes to wood and keep the window shut at least during daytime. His catch sure came with style. If you want an example of his best catches you must watch the way he used to catch the mangoes that we plucked from the tall tree in our house. He still does help at home with his famous catches that let to year long mango avakkai pickes. He never missed any just like the balls in cricket. Players missing catches would do well to get trained by my dear brother..!! Captain kannan he sure was whenever he played cricket. He wouldn’t let another boy plot the road shows …I mean the roadside cricket. With the cricket players going around crores in full swing this season.. think my brother missed a few crores all because of my dear (late)father? Mmmhmm… I wonder.. sathya |
