hi Brindha... this topic is good....as your main question is Will women get equal higher education as men??????????? I must say, now people really want their daughters to be highly educated..this is the thinking of general middle class..and many are providing higher education too. But few fail to do so definitely those who fail to provide higher education to their daughters provide higher education to sons either they take loan for this or belch their property. But when it comes for daughters higher education people who take loan for their sons education never send their daughters for higher education. But i have observed most of them provide a simple graduation degree to their daughters. Financial condition is the main thing. Now we don't have such people who don't want to send their daughters for higher education. Before sending for higher or professional education many start calculating about the dowry and all expenses which they can associate with their daughter. If girls are provided concession in higher education definitely everyone will send their daughters. As we can see cost of living is rising so fast. Sometimes i feel literacy rate and ratio in our country will drop very soon due to inflation. People are well aware but what i have observed in our country people suffer due to lack of information. I personally feel in any institute when we ask for some information they hide so many things. Sometimes there is some privilege for girls but that will hardly be displayed anywhere only person working in that particular institute or their relatives will know all the facts. There is lack of information too. Government plans so many things but when it comes for implementation there is a good paper work. I will tell you one thing i applied for computer course from reputed government organization(not revealing the name) after my graduation, i cleared enterance and was ranked fourth so i was eligible to get fifty percent concession in fee being the female candidate. I knew this through some news paper but in the institute it was not at all displayed on any of the notice board. I went their with all my documents and i had cheque for the full payment. Then i asked the person regarding that concession. He asked me to talk to higher authority, i got a chance i put my point their. I was surprised when that person asked me to give him ten thousand and then i will get concession. I dropped idea to join that course. This is the situation how a middle class can provide education to all their children with such corruption and high prices which is rising everyday......

Dear Brindha, You have stirred up a very relevant topic here! Women pursuing higher education is on the rise mainly due to 2 reasons - the increased availability of jobs for the highly skilled, and the newfound willingness of family and society to let women work. There is a disparity among the number of boys allowed to study and the number of girls. I would say it is due to parents calculating the 'Return on Investment' in the case of girls. In all probability, the girl's salary would not come to the parents, unlike the boy's. Furthermore, parents consider their main responsibilty to be the marriage of the daughter. If she wants to study further, her husband or in-laws have to be persuaded, and that is a different story altogether. One thing that bothers me a lot, is when people talk about their grown-up children in this manner - "I have a son and a daughter. My daughter is married, and my son is an Engineer/Doctor." Okay, the son is a professional, but what about the daughter? She is married, and that is all we need to say about her!! ![]() In my opinion, the booming of the private sector in India is a blessing, inspite of the lifestyle changes it has created. Atleast women can now aspire to professional careers on par with those of men, even if it may be only for a few years! Regards, Sowmya

| dear brindha, all said and done, we find many woman equallying many men in many fields, and excelled too, but the ego of men other than her father who tries to educate her, sometimes only girls are there in the home and we find parents concentrating more on them, that is how a revolution started. take our great lady ms.kiran bedi, could not get the top position due to the manoavering of the lists so she quit to serve on her own, we find many trying to analyze our president and her state of mind and how stupid she is and so on, which is very pathetic in a land where woman are in every sphere, so there is no limit of desolation but still they come up with flying colors..even a leader like indira gandhi was never spared she was slandered and in the end said she was surrounded by men who helped her to rule pathetic... If a woman is successful: 1. Her colleagues are very jealous, women also included. 2. Her husband thinks she may not respect him so marital clashes, the very interest he took in her will turn against after marriage. 3. Her father finds her to be cut off and she has no power over her earning after marriage, it's her husband who plans about her earnings. 4. Her in laws are very happy and greedy and would love to spend what she earns. 5. Her subordinates react in a way where she has to work double to prove her mettle though she reaches out faster a lot many don’t find it so. 6. The cheapest way of slandering a success is by gossiping about her and a man. 7. The managers will frame her to get her seat, replacing it to a guy. 8. The husband if at home can do damage too enormous to handle, like children talking ill of her, and parents are readily agreeing to tarnish what is being said by the son. 9. The children take her for granted and easily say it was her duty to take care and they are in no way responsible to her, [this is the influence of the man and other of the house sad ] 10. During menopause the most crucial time a woman never gets to retire, she has to slog as so much money in stake says the husband. With all the above I must say women do flourish and come up though they may not be appreciated to the level they should be, but yes if given a chance man will get her shade of love which will never fail in his life, whether as daughter, sister, mother, and many other roles that she plays in life… sunkan solution to change this is to work from home and all offices should provide the necessary infrastructure for a woman to be available to her own needs and office at the same time..

Hi Sunkan You have listed out all the hurdles a successful woman has to face so well. It really is so tough for her....yet there are so many who despite these hurdles come out in flying colours which alone provides a source of encouragement for her sisters in similar positions who have to face the wrath of husband/in-laws or jealous colleagues....male and female.Slander is a massive weapon and this is very difficult to face unless genuine family support exists. Many women have excelled , true but it is still a man's world out there and this is where her success becomes more meaningful when she strikes out and emerges a winner. warm regards PAULINA ![]()

Dear Brindha, A really thought provoking post.. Inspite of all the rough deals women have had down the centuries, we can proudly claim to have achieved a lot against tremendous odds. We can also be proud of the fact that Asia especially the sub continent has had more women leaders than any other continent. Since we have come this far, the day is not far off when we can say that women are not only surviving but surpassing by becoming winners in all fields of endeavour. warm regards PAULINA ![]()

Dear Brinda, I would accept your statement partially cos gone are the days where girls were not being educated. Nowadays girls get educated equally like the boys. Have u seen the rush at the colleges in chennai? Nowadays girls are into all the fields possible. Earlier days getting a degree itslef was a big achievement for girls but nowadays doing a phd has become a matter of fact. Very few families are not able to send the girls for higher education to colleges / universities cos of financial crisis or some other personal reasons. But I would say that at least 80% of the girls are sure to take up a degree thru regular / correspondence. Parents feel that more than education giving knowledge to their children it would be a great asset for their girl in future like the saying "'KALVI KAI KODUKKUM". Even if the husband lets the girl down the education will not let her down.
