| “A thing of beauty is a joy forever” This very statement of John Keats brings out the poesy’s beauty and the natural connoisseur John Keats’ reflection on real beauty. Yes. The aesthetic sense in his poem makes us feel delighted by the creator’s unmatchable and incomparable faculty of beauty fusion in the cosmos, which many a time leads to fission of a macro nature. But then, that is the beauty of nature. Man must understand the limitations of everything around him; he must understand himself. This includes both the genders. Once again the chromosome chemistry itself is the Physics of Mathematics; which in itself is the entire art of Science! There is the Science of Arts; and then Arts in Sciences too. Everything boils down to the coldness of beauty per se. A click to the Wonder Poem How far did Keats go to communicate his belief? Emotion was the key element of any romantic poet, the intensity of which is present in all of Keats’ poems. Keats openly expressed feelings ignoring stylistic rules which suppressed other poets. Keats’ poems display a therapeutic experience, as many of his odes show a sense of struggle to accept; and a longing to search for an emotion which he could feel off for his eternity. As romantics emphasized beauty in order to replace the lack of religion, the quote “A thing of beauty is a joy forever”, I believe tormented him ever since he wrote Endymion, the odes to be discussed are hence almost a progression of thought and understanding of his own belief. “Odes to Autumn”- greatest of nature poems written and I agree with Cedric Watts who wrote that it is a “richly resourceful yet alert and unsentimental”. Keats creates a sumptuousness which reflects the beauty he has found in autumn. The intonation within the first stanza is almost of excitement, as if this beauty has suddenly unleashed itself onto his senses, its effect is more powerful than drug induced mood in “Nightingale” Beauty Mathematica “Small is beautiful”. This averment of “Schumacher” is pregnant with meaning. We cherish small things. Small is not trivial. In fact everything in this world starts with an atom only. The dot to the line and the line to the figure and the latter encompassing a space creates the aroma of beauty. Can’t we feel the aroma? Definitely we can! The Cosmic beauty The aura of mysteries is a real beauty. The aura is in fact there in everything. It is the divinity of the Universe. Beauty then pervades the cosmos. It is the creator’s weapon to balance the good and the evil. If good is the first eye, bad is the second, then ultimately the third eye is Beauty. What a beauty of Godly philosophy? Yes. Everything divine is wonderful. In fact, the act of wondering is philosophy. Beauty Quantified E=mc2, the beautiful equation of Einstein is the epitome of modern Quantum Mechanics. Small, pithy but performed. It is profound like the wise saying of the Great Tamil poet- scholar Thiruvalluvar’s Thirukkural. Lord Krishna reveals to the despondent archer Arjuna the beauty of action through his karma yoga vivisection. In fact, each yogic practice is beautiful personification. Each karma or action for its own sake releases its own results in the most scientific way, similarly Raja yoga, Jnana yoga, Bhakthi yoga, each one is an element of beauty. But then beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder, because it requires appreciation. Not all can appreciate. It requires wisdom and not a mere knowledge. Knowledge can be acquired but wisdom normally dawns, like the dawning of the sun in the east, even a darning of the torn piece by an experiment tailor or robes man creates beauty. The knowledge of the great Tamil poet Kamban was put to test by the ordinary farmer when the latter was singing about the beauty of droplets of snow on the leaves of bamboos. Kamban was mesmerized by the ordinary farmer’s insightful song. It permeated the great poet’s inner self. It inspired him. Beauty is to be perceived. Beauteous Philosophy Beauty is skin deep. To whom? To those who cannot tolerate the divinity of the Lord and also non-possession of the quality of beauty with the possession of ego in plenty, automatically gears up the statement that beauty is after all temporary. If we think that we can understand that everything is Godly, then they cannot be temporary; everything co-exists with other things. The very concept of “temporariness” gains meaning only if we can understand “permanence”. Then when human beings are mortal, their statements are also mortal. But then Life possesses the mortal body along with the immortal soul. Soul never dies. It permeates the universe. That is why each creation of the Almighty possesses the distinctive beauty. Generation after generation enjoys the “realness of beauty” which is the transcending element in the divine drama. Then, can it be short lived? Never! It is the most- enduring element of nature. Yes! Nature is beautiful. We are the product of nature. If nature is beauty personified, then are we not beautiful, automatically at least when compared to nature? If we understand this philosophy, then every one of us will appreciate John Keats’ beautifully carved out statement of his heart- “A thing of beauty is a joy forever”. Beauty’s Empathy ‘Beauty’ is ever beautiful. Nature’s bounty is beautiful. When man makes a mockery of nature he becomes ugly and his life becomes ugly in turn. When nature is destroyed and devastated then the divineness of nature is blunted which is not liked by the beautiful nature herself. It has to bounce back beautifully and teach a lesson to mankind. How? When trees are felled indiscriminately, when deforestation takes place on a mass scale even with the connivance of powers-that-be, when the flora and fauna are crucified, when the air and atmosphere are polluted with poisonous gases, when the sea bed is dumped with missiles, when dams are constructed without exercising the beautiful reason tool of God; definitely the “green house effect” takes place. Is nature the reason? No. man is the cause; who is to suffer? Mankind! Beauty Engineers Tsunami rages, nay, it wages a war with mankind. Why? Is it not the answer of beautiful nature to mankind’s pleasure-seeking adamancy and audacity in questioning nature herself via the nature- marring nature of mankind? Hundred percent ‘yes’ becomes the answer from my mind, especially as an engineering student. I wink a second. I understand now I am a biotechnology student who can appreciate nature, the divine creation of the Almighty. When we revere nature, beauty is respected; we cannot inspect nature’s beauty; we have to respect. Let us adore beauty and let us not abhor beauty. Then beauty will reside in us and around us. Beauty transcends boundaries. Beauty galore In the modern world definitely fashions galore and beauty contests too. Miss Universe contests have become the order of the day. This shows that beauty is adored. It has got price tags too. Natural beauties compete with beautician’s beauty! The beautified pageantries vie with each other in each country. In these open-outs beauty is defined as the combination of qualities that pleases the aesthetic senses, especially the sight. The well decorated cows during the harvest festival definitely are a beautiful sight and a joy forever. Beauty does indicate a school of qualities that pleases the intellect or moral sense. “The beauty of argument” signifies this aspect too. That is why the modern beauty contests are exposed to the beauty queens only with a general knowledge round that is packed with testing the aptitude of the contestants. Excellent specimens also constitute beauty. The phraseology outlined in the beginning of this write-up “What a beauty?” implies the same. An attractive feature or an advantage also comes in handy. “That’s the beauty” phrase also indicates the same. Regards with Beauteous Love :) RamyaVaradharajan

| Dearest Egyption Queen, sweet Aruna ma'am, Thank you very much for I know how eager you were while we had an online chat for me to post this article :):) Actually we had an assignment for our 1st semester English at college. It was to read a full fledged poem and about the poet and thereby to give a short description as to what we understood and why we chose the same !!! As you know very well, I resort to my father whatever it might be. Even if its buying an HB pencil, I consult or have a discussion with him. Though I used to read a lot right from my school days, I take enough time to read each and every page. Unless and until the reason is understandable and agreeable, I do not turn to the next leaf !!! I simply adored "A thing of beauty is a joy forever" title and started my conversation with my father !!! Searched the net for the poem and I was thrilled !!! Completed my assignment as soon as possible. Happy that I was the first to complete in my class and got a special appreciation from my favorite most staff at college :) That created a spark within me as to some project work i should take up personally to analyze on things we miss out. To interospect on subtle elemetaries of Life. So you can very well call it a project work :):) but for no official purpose :) (a personal interest and inclination towards beauty :) ) Sorry for the delay as you might know the reason !! Regards with Love RamyaVaradharajan Quote:
