dear geeth

i was excited to c ur post coz i also love sevai....my hubby loves it and so a tiresome job i make it a point to do it almost every week....i asked my hubby to carry the sevai nazhi to dubai and was caught in dubai by a customs official asking whats tht??vibu had a tuff time explaining him what it is and just prayed tht he got thru....ofcoz i received the share of scoldings frm him after he reached home...but then i am sure the effort is worth it when i make sevai every time...

Ofcourse that too was good , but the taste of that first eaten sevai which her mother had made is unmatchable (my friend had told me about its laborious process). She had made all threee plain, coconut and even lemon, I went on eating as if i had not eaten food for days and was starving.
Anyway, thanks for reviving my memories and taste too. I at my home also try it with the readymade packet but......! HAts off to the pain of sevai!!!

Dear Geeth

That was a great write up on sevai. I enjoyed reading it and this also made me nostalgic. Sevai is my alltime favourite tiffin. We used to have sevai in our schooldays when my mother used to make lime sevai, Thengai sevai etc. and side dish was coconut and roasted gram chutney and morkootaan. Keep writing .

Hi
Delicious topic!!

I watched a cookery program by Mallika Badrinath on tv and she used this sevai machine once. Oh!!! It was pure magic watching the sevai come out from the top as the pressure built up inside the cooker.

It looked so tempting..........must checkout Ratna stores when I visit chennai next!!

Regards
Jaykay

Dear friends,
Long ago when I started to press the sevai from the hot kozhukkattai it will be easy to press. But when the kozukkattai became cool the pressing is very difficult to my aging hands.
I called my son to help for the pressing. He will come and help saying that why are you doing this hard work. After the toughest work it is very happy that seeing all are enjoying the various type of sevai.Atlost we will put sevai in Rasam for the next day use.Do you taste the thellenethethu rasam sevai next day with pappadam and nenthrangai chips.

Nowadays that all became dream. As I am alone who have interest to do all these toughest tiffin.

Dear Geeth,

I must say I enjoyed this piece of yours immensely!

First of all, it made me hungry and greedy to try that special sevai you have mentioned! But no luck with that!!

The whole post was like reading something in AnandaVikatan:) It had a lovely old world charm to it.

Also, from the following fbs, I was fascinated to learn about the modern sevai maker, how interesting. In spite of it, I doubt if I will acquire anything like that for my kitchen...I will make do with the substitutes I get from my local Asian stores !

I am not going to break my back...or is it my arms...to do so much sevai for some sevai.

L, Kamla

Dear GEET
Wonderful writeup.Really enjoyed. In my in laws it was the same sevai was done.My mother was from Allepey,so traditional way of preparing sevai was followed.I used to do the same way.My husband and children used to help me prepare this and whole day menu was sevai, moorkombu and appalam...........But the whole kitchen used to be a mess,But the taste of sevai makes one forget it all..........
