Dear, dear Geetha,
Innai varai, ennode favourite tiffine, sevaiyakkum, kettaya?
I am married in a PGT family - when I came as a new bride, sevai was made every alternate day! Ofcourse, porichukottina sevai, morkootan & pappadum.
It is equally good with sambar.
Soak the remaining sevai (if any) in rasavandi overnight and eat - heaven is at your feet.
Once in Trivandrum, I ate sevai wth coconut milk & sugar.
My friend makes tomato sevai with a hint (only) of masala.
Now I use equal volumes of puzungalarisi & pacharisi - it comes in long strands. A little coconut added when grinding gives a nice aroma.
In Coimbatore, a new machine called Sevai magik has come.
SevaiMagik :: Automatic Sevai Cooker
It costs more than Rs 3000 +. No need to say, I am highly tempted.
Very breezy, but very delicious write-up, Geeth!
Love,
Chithra.

Dear chithra mam,
thanks a lot mam..million million thanks! married in to Palgat family! i can immagine sevai

Yes mam sevai in rasavandi and even morekootan the previous night and eating the same next morning..ss
in trivandrum they give with sarkarai(vellam) kalanda coconut milk. even in our family we used to have along with coconut milk..but immagine how many coconuts we had to scrap...for puliseri..coconut milk...so my patti used to end with puliseri but occassionaly coconut milk...it is also a good combo!

so you are also in the sevai priyas list...very happy to know that...

Thanks a lot for other tips too mam... i will give a try?
Sevaimagi a machine! itis a news to me...but the price? makes me to think a lot...anyway let me have a look at it when i visit CBE. some of my mannis who got influenced by my sevai are having shoulder problem and that keeps them away trying the same..that is why i am looking for an easier one...

thanks alot for the information

love
geeth

I too love sevai but I prepare it sometimes that to not your traditional way my God I know it is very difficult one, as use to see one of my friend doing it traditionaal way with sevai nazhi, but I get the rice noodles from the market and make it. Ya I know it is not so yummy as home made but it is ok........haha

Dear Geeth,
I am another sevai fan..closely followed by my son. I make the batter into idly and then puzhinjufy in the Sevai Nazhi. My son (when he was 3 years old) would sit next to me, bend down and look at the idly being turned into Sevai..cheering out as.."Idly becoming sevai..ma..ma..mam.mamaa magic.."
Chithra is mentioning about Magic Sevai..This made me
Yes..sevai makes you very nostalgic..
Regards
USHA

Dear Geeth,

romba padutharelein. Ippadi sevai pathi ezhithinal naakka enna seivadhu adhum officella irundhudu verum jollu dhan.

After reading your nostalgic trip on sevai, I was on mine, where my dad used to press the nazhi and we would be drooling to have it like that itslef minus the lemon or coconut. And as you said it will be on a sunday and honestly we would have some unexpected guests, where we had to share our sevai and we the kids used to . But now due to lack of time or rather sombari thanam instant sevai dhan lifestyle ayivitadhu. Ippo recenta PGT poi irudhen, nanna sevai sapitu vandhen.

Thanx for the writeup and jollus............ If somebody can give a sevai making machine, I would be truly ver happy to have that.

Smile Re: Sevai AND MY NOSTALGIA

Hi Geeth! That was a very wonderful writeup on the making (cum eating) of one of my favourite dish! Enjoyed reading it!

As many ILites had written here, took me back to my days of youth... Me and my brother were the ones who used to help my mom make it using the 'sevai-nazhi'.... Last summer, when I had taken my sons to my parent's place, they enjoyed playing this role helping 'patti' make delicious 'sevai'.

Saw the link given by Chitra Mam. mmm ... very tempting.... have anybody used it? Any feedback on the product?

Anyway! Thanks for the nice piece of writing!

Cheers!

hello geet

it was oommmph
mmmmmm
and ooomph
by father/ brother or bil
at our place

my father just loved sevai
it was traditionally prepared and served in my marriage reception..different varieties too....
the traditional recipes and sure great taste.. ...
the branded ones sure waste
or may be tasty to someone who knows nothing about it...
like a villager in india goes ooo hhhhaaa about a pizza corner at his place....
(nalla varattu rotti kettiya..!!)
enjoyed the scene where everyone rushed to get more marks....than sevai...think we can try this with todays kids?
