Default Humanity still breathes!

Dear Ilites,

I came across this news, I should say a "MESSAGE TO HUMANITY" in Times of India, Chennai.

My eyes welled up while I finished reading. I could hear the breath. The humanity is still breathing.

And the message of the day -

******

Chennai: K Prakash (37), a temple priest from Chrompet, was returning home, when a tempo rammed into his bike on GST Road last week. He was rushed to a city hospital and declared brain dead on Monday.

As ventilators struggled to keep the beeps on the monitors alive, doctors at the hospital broached the topic of organ donation with his relatives. "The doctors told us that his organs could help give at least six other ailing people a new lease of life," said K Ramesh, the victim's brother-in-law.

The family was shattered, But Prakash's wife, Savithri, 27 made the first move. At 4 pm on Tuesday, she told doctors that she was willing to sign the form of consent a an mandatory requirement to donate organs of blood relatives or spouse. "He has always been of help to everyone. She told us that he would have appreciated her gesture if he had been alive. And that moved all of us," said another relative.

There were some in the family who feared they would be ostracized from their community. But Prakash's wife's determination prevailed.

In fact, the family wanted his eyes to be donated to Savithri' mother who has been advised a corneal transplant. "But Savithri turned down the suggestion. She wanted others to be benefit from the donation. He was a priest but more than that he was a social activist who fought against injustice. He never feared to challenge people if he found them ill-treating others," Ramesh said.

On Tuesday, Savithri was too shocked to speak. But as her husband's body was wheeled in to the theatre, she wiped the tears in her eyes. "She knows his heart would continue to beat and his eyes will see the world, if only through another person who would have a got fresh lease of life," said Ramesh.

******
Don't you feel that the spirit of humanity lives and breathes in us now? This humanity alone can heal this earth.

Prakash offered his life, he made a difference. And Savithri listened to her convictions, listened to her instincts...she used the power of her life....and survived the humanity.

I feel proud at this woman's determination.

Let us use our power of life to survive the humanity and heal the future.
