Don’t get me wrong.This is about the movie, and not about me.Yesterday night Sita was flipping channels,when we came across this movie on Zee, and she wanted to change it, and I told her to stop and let me watch it.She got bugged, and mom told her that when she was a baby she used to love see this movie on video, and she couldn’t believe it.


Sita was born in 87, and this movie released in 89, and she used to bore us with watching this movie the whole day.Today was my turn to bore her.Time does bring revenge sometimes.I still love this movie, clean, fun, and lovely songs by Lata and SP Balasubramanium, with music by Raam Laxman.The first movie directed by Sooraj Bartajya.


This brought so many memories back, and with whiskey in yr hand and down your throat, a lot of forgotton memories came back which I immediately wrote down in my diary, lest I forget when I am sober.


Rajshree pictures, were on the verge of Bankrupcy when this movie was made.Ads had come in the papers for selling the movie cameras and other materials.Sooraj a young lad of maybe 24 years then, requested his grandfather,Tarachand, to let him make one m,ovie, and direct it too.Grandfather told him, we cant afford,we are selling off everything, but then the grandfather gave in for one last time to his dear grandson.The movie became a big hit, and the rest is history.


It requires guts to take a new pair,new music directors, new singer SP, and other sidey characters, and make a great hit.Huma Khan a busty sidey, and my favourite for obious reasons,was the maid in love with the servant Berde, who died a few years back.Huma Khan was in the news recently, when she ill treated a servant girl in Poona, and the girl’s parents filed a case in court.


Slogan – On the walls was a poster of “ Maine Pyaar Kiya “ those days, and a fellow had written below it “ Tunne Kya Kiya “.


Rajshree Pictures – there was a time when everything they did, turned into gold.I remember Basu Chaterjee directed 2 movies for them “ Piya ka Ghar”(Anil Dhawan,Jaya Bhaduri),with the lovely song of Kishoreda “ Yeh Jeevan Hai”, Chit Chor (Amol Palekar,Zarina Wahab), both wonderful movies.Chit chor released in only 1 cinema hall in Mumbai,in Andheri, and as the word spread about it, they slowly released it in other halls.It seems people from Poona and Nasik came specially to see it .Some strategy, so different from these days, when u have 500 prints releasing simultaneously.


They had under production at any given time over 25 movies,and there used to be full page ads in “ Screen” the famous newspaper cum magazine those days, with details given about the movies under production.


And they were the sole exhibitors in most of the biggest cinema halls in Mumbai,around 50 of them.that means they had bought out the halls and they could decide which movie to show in which theatre.


They used to take up distribution of movies too.Sholay was released by them in the South of India, and they made pots of money really.I read that they wanted to show losses, so they took up a silly movie called “ Gora Aur Kala” starring Rajendra Kumar ,who was on his decline then, and Rekha, a lousy movie really, but even this movie became a hit.Everything they did turned to Gold.Sometimes money rains in, and you don’t have room to keep it.


Then luck started to desert them in the eighties, and they were on their last penny till Sooraj Bartajya arrived to rescue his Grandfather, father and two uncles.I just loved the songs, all of them.” Tere Rang Mein “sung on the terrace, was so errotic,and the heroine all covered up.The mother of the heroine, Reema Lagoo, pretty herself, I had read was a live in with Shafi Inamdar, an other Stage and film actor.She was the mother of Kajol in “Kuch Kuch Hota Hai “.She still looks attractive herself, at times better than the heroine


The Rajshree people still live in a Bunglow at worli Sea Face, which I saw recently, very old fashioned.I heard the ladies of the house themselves do the cleaning and cooking.Very tradional and orthodox.Maine Pyar kiya and Hum Appke combined made I think around 300 crores, which can last them a good 7 generations, and with the frugal way they live, maybe 17 generations.


God when will u be kind to me,and rain money on me Boss.I will make sure I will share some part of that money with the I Lites here,some will go to better my vices, and the rest in Fixed Deposits.I promise I wont do any work after that, and maybe even stop blogging,because I have to count all that money, and it will take me a lifetime.Give me big notes, not the 1 and 2 Ruppe ones, no bank will accept them.Waiting for the torrential rain.Amen

that was a detailed write about film world. thanx for that enlightening report.the most powerful element of that movie was the "innocence" of the young heroine ........Recently the same movie was made into tamil movie named "something something" but this element was totally missing ........
Talking about making money, that is only one side of the coin, how about all the risks & losses they incur. u refered to bankrupcy........ how many people are ready to take such risks. life is a mixed bag ......... we only tend to look at the rosy side of others' life & darker side of our lives. if it were vice versa we w'd be far more happier.

Even I love those 2 movies....its always like watching chitrahaar for 2 plus hrs with dialogues in between...

BTW SPB was not a new singer then....he was already a big name in south and in the hindi film world was known for "Ek duje ke liye" songs.

I thought I will pray for money to rain on u....bcos u agree to share it with the ILites here(I m sure to get my share na?)....but changed my mind, when i read that u will have to stop blogging...

Yes the herione was very good and innocnet.

I forgot to add another part to the blog, which skipped me.

Bhagyashree soon after the movie gave birth to a child.Sooraj B went to the hospital and gifted her some cheap gift, which infuriated her.And they said her clothes in the movie were very ordinary ones, but nonetheless the movie was a hit is what matters.
