Hello Kamalji,
Please give UP your bad habits smoking and drinks.
Nothing is impossible. You could do it. Everything is there in mind.
My husband learnt a bad habit of taking pan parag...
He was taking 2-3 per day and used to smell very badly when he is speaking.
I told him firmly that if he wants to come near me, he should not take it.
And also I told him 'Do it for 21 days, it becomes a habit' and he stopped it completely. I am so happy about it.
Please these bad habits will lead to bad health.
You know it, but stilll.....

Regards.

Dear most Kamalji,

I should be frank enough to pen down my inner voice as soon as I read the heading of your blog !! Thought I can express frankly rather can hide my feelings about the same. Each and every word put forth is out of sheer interest in the well being of a person whom I like here at IL.

Being myself all the time, I never had liked smoking, the very smell when the puff is inhaled and exhaled drives me to death (if the word is not too harsh ) !! Yes, who ever walking besides me, will feel a tremor in their heart, when someone else is smoking in the road or in the public. I had never felt that I am a girl and should be reserved in speaking at a public. When I find someone smoking, near me, I break my "patience" meter and start to scold. Though I know I should not do so !! Passive smokers are affected even more than those who smoke.

When something is bad for our health, why do we adopt it even after knowing that its traumatic !!! Why then are we termed the "sixth sensed creation"??? "Social animal"??? Ya true, "animal" would just be apt, I have told many a time to myself !!

Pl Kamalji, its on a friendly note am writing, pl for heaven sake quit smoking. I had seen in many of your posts that you would have written something or the other that is related to a "puff"; but never had the courage to speak my heart then !! Now that you have come up with a exclusive post relating to the same, I feel its my duty to express what i wanted to.

Will you not accept your daughter's kind and sincere petition ???? I assume the role of your daughter now !! (Read in Font size INFINITY and written in BLOOD !!!)

Am sorry if I had hurt you anywhere in my reply. But, I take it as one of my duties. Nothing else would give me a great pleasure other than hearing from my dear friend that "he had quit smoking one day".. Truly speaking.. am waiting for that "auspicious and HEALTHY" day to come.

Remember.. I will be the first person to reply in that "YET TO COME BLOG OF URS" !!!!:)

My sincere prayers and support
RamyaVaradharajan

Kamalji,

Enjoyed your rightup and the kind of camaraderie you shared with your Dad.
As far as smoking is concerned the earth has lost very wonderful people who could have probably lived a lot more years had it not been for smoking. I have lost quite a few of my dear ones to smoking .
So as all the others I guess I can only say smoking is very injurious to health ,something that is written very clearly on the packet of these fags too!

Regards,
Devika

dear kamalji, i come from a family where every adult male is a heavy smoker and the smell of tobacco is very familiar to me.However I have a different story to tell because i believe you are very sensitive about father child relation. My father like his uncles and brothers was a smoker from a young age but no one ever dared to confront or advise him ,I being his pampered daughter would often snatch his hookah pipe from his mouth ,his response would be a stern look.I was not scared of him like others, I was his darling. One afternoon in 1991 papa anounced that he would quit smoking ,that evening he smoked till late in night ,his room was full of smoke ..next morning when his hookah was taken away he never asked for it.he had given it up.There was no withdrawl ,craving or mood chnges and he did not look back.1993 he was hospitalised for a severe infection in chest and damaged lungs were partly responsible ,he was diagnosed as cOAd CHRONIC OBSTRUCTIVE AIRWAY DISEASE.He Continued to fall ill every winter, his breathlessness increased and he was dependent on inhalers, above all i was watching him grow old until a few weeks ago when he queitly passed away ,he was looking at me with the same affection as he used to.I miss papa ,wonder if he had stopped smoking earlier would he live longer?regrds, humera

Dear Friends,

Thank u very much for yr kind advise to me to leave smoking.I am touched by yr concern and am doing my best to leave it.

But most of u missed the crux of this blog. The relation between father and son.A father wanting his son to smoke in front of him, which is very very rare these days.Father and son drinking together is very common amoung us Sindhis, very common, but smoking in front of Dad is no no.

I wanted to convey the large heartedness of my Dad,knowing Cigges are bad for health, he could not leave it,and he could never tell me to leave it.And he wanted that if i smoked, why hide in another room, he wanted me to smole in front of him.

I am glad i was born to my Dad, and would want him for as many briths as my Dad once again.

Another thing u readers miss a point.Think like this logically.

I can do for years without icecream,Dosa,Idlis, soft drinks, and sweets. Can any of u ?

Suppose for the sake of example, Ramya likes Sweets after dinner, and we tell her leave sweets for ever. Can she ??????

Try leaving something that u love very much, and u will know how difficult these things are.

Lets not take the case of Ciggies are bad for health, and sweets are not bad.

JUST TRY LEAVING SOMETHING THAT U LOVE, AND U WILL START PESPIRING AT THE THOUGHT.

Easier said than done.

But i am trying my best, not to worry, inshallah it will be done soon.

thank u all very much for yr kind concern and wishes. You ar all very dear to me.Regards.kamal

Dear Kamalji,

I think u did not read my earlier response correctly.I could see the father son relationship so sweetly woven here and thats the reason i mentioned my take on my father's smoking.Being a daughter i could not take up smoking like u though!!!
Throughly enjoyed reading this piece though.

hello kamalji

that was a nice write up
but for the smoke
it is creating here...!!
dads are nice
so long as they dont smoke..
ahaha

in one of rajnikanths movie
he is asked to smoke to his fill
in a day
and he gives up smoking...!!
so there lies a way...

another story true
a man of eighty stands up straight
to ask a question
swamiji you say smoking is bad
look at me up at eighty and healthy
swamiji looked at him kindly...said
you have to thank your parents for it
but your children and grand children
have to thank you
for their ill health
so we hand down ill health when we smoke or drink
its up to you

i always fought about smoking
with my dad
who loved to tease me
with the topic

sathya

Resp. Kamalji,

I think we have not left out on the point of the father-son relationship a mention IS there...but i think since everyone has stressed more on the smoking habit that point seems left out.

anything done in moderation dosen't need to be given up or difficult to give up...its always our mind set which rules the heart and hence the difficulty.

There are a zillion people out there who say that we have to eat out a couple of times in a week and for us even if we have not eaten out for a couple of months we don't realise or miss anything....

As someone has rightly suggested...cut down by 1 ciggie every other day or cut down by duration...if you smoke one every 30 min...take the next puff every 40 min...but beware by trying to quit smoking don't get hooked on to something else.

Warm regards
Roopa.
