Smile How same syllables can put you in trouble!

This is a humurous incident that happened in my early years of my career.

I was working in a machine tools factory in the electrical department as a Maintanence apprentice. This factory is still there in a village next to Chennai, after velachery.

There were 3 shift supervisors. 2 of them well qualified and one was a school drop out but with his hardwork had come up in the same factory. He had been a lathe operator and grew in the organisation.

Coming to the incident, there were series of rejections in the chucks (machine tool) by the quality team at the finishing stages of a product. that means loss of around 30 K to the company and at that time (1992) this was a huge amount for a small company.

The management wanted a root cause analysis and our hero was heading the investigation.

The lathe operator was saying that every time he called the quality supervisor to check step by step process and it is not his fault. The Quality supervisor says, he had set the measuring gauge in the tail head and for the next consecutive checking the gauge was moved by the operator.

Hearing both the sides the supervisor said “I Know, I know”

Both the parties were relieved stating that he has understood the problem and will convince the management that the error had happened and no one had to be blamed.

After a deep sigh the supervisor says “ Naan illai, Naan illai, I cannot face the management. With such excuses”

Least the operators knew that the supervisor was stating “I NO, I NO”

This was shared among the learned gossipers in the factory for very long time and were having fun time.

Well, I am not one among those learned gossipers J

Naan Illai in Tamil means I am NOT. For that he said I NO... a literal translation of Naan ( I ) Illai ( NO )
