| My aunts used to have a small collection of M & B’s and I took great pleasure in reading them. I even remember my first book it was titled “The Wandalilli Princess”. These books gave me time off to drift into fantasy filled dreams of having my man – who would love me the most and he must have a chiselled face and must be strong and powerful (all essential if you are true M & B fanJ) and of course he should sweep me off my feet. My elders would often remark “stop reading such books and get into some serious reading” this would ensure I rebel even more. Why not M & B’s filled with romance? I would not want to read what George Bernard Shaw wrote, this is more interesting. When I used to get the occasional pimple on my face the curse of all teenagers, my grandma would start lamenting “ kanda pusthagathe padicha iddhuthan gadi”. She would say that M & B gave a girl wrong ideas to rebel to get into all types of trouble. But at teen age, my god it was the forbidden fruit. The more I was told not to read it the more I would spend time reading it. And she would often blame the books for my little spurt of rebellion. Today I still prefer a good old M & B to while away my time in any journey. Not to dream about the Hero, as I have my very own, but rather to softly sigh and think of those beautiful childish moments and fantasies that I once used to harbour. |

| Hi priya, the old M&B were good.and me too joined the gang after 10th. Once I remember my BIL telling his wife, don't pick up those books they will corrupt you.. But today it is a waste..there is not much class to the m&B's. but the cnn-ibn news said that india is leading in sale of m&b. Anne mather, emma darcy, charolotte lamb were my favourites those days..... now not too much into them....

Ya i know M & B's today are sadly no longer a good read. But have you read historical romances of these days. If you have a chance please read Stephanie Laurans - her cynster series are really popular and are quite a read. I have her entire collection......no matter what age ...i think romance never ages it is all in the heart. |
