Default Salutations To Those Dedicated Teachers

Those were the days, when the strength of the class never exceeded thirty in numbers, and we had ample space and time with the teachers, who were monetarily any day poorer than our corporate officials but the rich contribution on their part never goes waste among children of the future.

I had a sister Virgini who was an inspirer and she put in everlasting memories on conduct and how a lady should carry herself off, apart from teaching they inspired to make a personality to reckon. Never dress like those woman who fight near the water tap, learn how to conduct yourself, always change your dresses into home clothes before you go out shopping for the house. I would not appreciate children being seen with uniforms in petty shops, these were her words, which is etched even after a lapse of 40 yrs.

The other side of teaching I came to know when my daughter started teaching math and the load of work, correcting papers, preparing notes, each subject had some 80 papers at least to get ready, apart from this the school assignments, the teachers meeting and the principal’s meeting, and the child’s upgrading, extra hours for the orphaned or boarding children, not only with their studies but also being their counselors.

Some children were left in the boarding because the parents were divorced, and the child had no place to go for a holiday. They always spend their lifetime in school.
Carrying some home made cookies, or treating them to ice creams, or baking cakes for them, practically a teacher has no time for self, she is guardian, guide, and sometime looked upon as mother whom they miss most.

Always trying to pep them with a pizza, to get the assignment done in time, to improvise their grades, the library assignments helping them in their projects, practically she works for all round developments of many children, we think after all by 4.30 p.m. she leaves for home, but with that she brings books to be corrected, the next chapter and lesson plans to be charted to be presented to the authorities.

During the festival times like Christmas ,New year, there used to be more work, The Bishop Cottons in Bangalore always had great fanfares with Mr.Ebenizer as their principal and to put up such a big show, each teacher had to contribute all her time to make it a success, to put up stalls and sell products for fund raising in the school, with picnics and outings where the teacher has to be careful about the kids, but also teach them about the place and its history.

Nowadays it is even more tough to teach as the children are computer savvy and they work out the sums on their pc, and come out with accurate answers and the teacher what she writes on the board has to tally with that of their work, other wise she gets ridiculed a lot, to gain the respect is very tough, you have to be thorough with the subject, otherwise you could be taken for a ride.

When in my 9th grade I remember my friends used to play pranks on the nun who used to teach us hindi, they used to say, just write the first paragraph and the last with lessons and in between just fill it with hindi songs and she will never know, and what they said was right she just corrected and said all’s fine. With just 30 students if a teacher can do this, what can we say about the present strength of students in each class now…

very tough indeed and to read in the papers that the teachers are no more dedicated is pathetic, they have never been able to stand in their shoes, where even the chairs are removed, as she is not supposed to sit, I remember massaging priya’s calf muscles once she reaches home, this is the treatment for the mind trainers of our future Indians. No pay hike, no beneficiaries, but more output, and more commitments. I hope to see the day when the teachers are justified and given a good salary and recognition for their contributions.
Regards sunkan

Dear Sunkan

Salutations to all the teachers....... They are the people who gromm the tomorrows professionals...

I dont want to comment about their salary levels......

But like any other profession here also there are quite a few bad apples.... I still remember my +1,2.... maths teacher who forced every one in the class to join tution with him... He will do few sums in the class.... that is the end.... if you ask him any clarifications..... he will ask them to come to the tuion and ask the clarifications there..... He was drawing more than 3 times his salary from the tution.....

I am not saying all are like that.... Now majority are going towards the Bad..... It may be because of the poor recognition & remunerations... But it leaves a bad taste in the mouth...

Dear veda,i have written why it is going bad, there is no space, and not enough energy to tackle so many of them in a class, those days we had three sections A B C now we have till K. how many teachers are needed in that case..if one has more than a section to tackle..its tough.

Though my princi Virgini used to call all by their name, hats off to her, many teachers with spaced out children can contribute quality education.. there are good and rotten apple every where, we have many who are bad and good, what we think as greed could be a different stuff in their family, he may have to support his family or his other burdens, but u got the maths, now that is one thing which none can take away from you, i always used to tell my kids, i may leave money property, jewels, anything but education that i try to give you all will stand by you anyday, the rest will vanish someday or the other, but education is something when u receive it is left in the brain untill u die...sunkan

Dear Sunken,

wHAT AN APT TIMIMG FOR THIS ARTICLE AS TOMORROW IS A TEACHER'S DAY.
My salutatiuons to both my parents and all the other techers who taught me.

I am visually seeing both my parents in your article.Apart from those schoolworks ,my mother has to do household chores also aftertravelling an hour from school.Still I feel bad for her.Whenever I will be with my parents I ask to take rest I do everything for her.

Regarding the bad apples, what you said is correct. In oneway it was good that we paid the money for whom, really taught to us.Now a days we have to pay for some instituion /management and again the really teaching fellows will get peanuts.

Krish.
