My parents (particularly my Dad), has talked to me about what he would like to be done as his last rites, what are his wishes etc. We talk about this stuff once in a while when he has more to add. His thoughts are very much like yours. He has told me that what we (his children) to for his departed soul does not matter to him because he is already gone. We must do what makes us feel good.
Anyway, this is a topic that noone generally likes to discuss at length but I do think it must be talked about once in a while and make your thoughts on it known to your close ones.
This post of your rightfully deserves the FP nomination!
