Default Amusing facts from around the world!

Wanted to start a thread where we can share a snippet or a piece of information that was amusing/interesting to us. My motivation for starting this thread came when I read that...

"Japan prohibits women from remarrying for six months after a divorce to ensure that she is not pregnant with her ex-husband's child".

Default alcohol effects on Men Vs Women

Alcohol Effects:Men vs. Women

When you compare men and women of the same height, weight and build, men tend to have more muscle and less fat than women. Because muscle tissue has more water than fat tissue, a given dose or amount of alcohol will be diluted more in a man than in a woman. Therefore, the blood alcohol concentration resulting from that dose will be higher in a woman than in a man, and the woman will feel the effects of that dose of alcohol sooner than the man will.

Default thirst & dehydration.............

Hello Friends,

Did you know Thirst is a late sign of dehydration.

When you are thirsty - it is too late. Be sure to drink b4 u feel thirsty.

Thirst is a feeling generated by some sensor cells in the body when
the osmolarity of the blood reaches up certain level.

It is the naatural mechanism to signal to drink water and restore the normal osmolarity.

while it could be a good idea to drink water before one feels thirsty, it is already laate.

Default Raw Vs Cooked Broccoli

I read this in a local newspaper...

Q: I would like to know if broccoli has the same benefits whether eaten raw or cooked.

A: The short answer is that you should eat both cooked and raw broccoli to get the maximum benefit. Indeed, raw food has lately been touted as healthier than cooked food. The argument is that cooking robs food of its nutrients. It's true that high temperatures can leach out some of the vitamins in vegetables. But cooking can also unlock vital nutrients in vegetables.

A Journal of Nutrition study found that cooking carrots and spinach triples the bioavailability of betacarotene, for instance. Raw broccoli has more vitamin C, but cooked broccoli has more bio-available cancer-fighting compounds. Another benefit: Cooking shrinks veggies, so a half-cup of cooked vegetables typically will be more nutrient-dense than a half-cup of raw vegetables. Raw vegetables also are more likely than cooked vegetables to result in gas or upset stomach.

Default We are #1...

We are #1 ...in producing babies!

But I must accept that this article mentioned that India will do well from an economic standpoint because it will have a steady supply of working age population for the forceable future.
