| | A Pair of handkerchief that cost us Rs.3040 Everybody has Monday Morning Blues - but for me and my husband, sundays are even worse. We have the "sundaywillbesoonoverophobia". Most of you would agree with me when I say that Friday evenings and Saturdays are pure bliss. But Sundays always bring up that dull low pain of the weekend getting over!!! Call it the "Sunday Glooms" So, we have both decided to make the best of our Sundays. Somehow, time passes like a wild fire until 5.00 PM on Sunday. It is at this threshold that the gloom begins. We get a little dull and start avoiding the inevitable conversations about "tomorrow". Another rule that we have framed for ourselves is that we would call the day early on and that we should hit the bed by atleast 9.30 PM. This Sunday was no exception to the stereotype. As usual, the day just began, when it was 5.00 PM already. My husband and I decided to watch a movie to take our mind off the Sunday evening depression. The movie was thrilling and soon it was 8.30. We had our dinner, took our dear Tommy for a walk and almost hit by the bed by 9.20, when my husband suddenly remembered something. "Handkerchief", he shouted. "I have been needing another pair for the last 2 weeks and I keep forgetting to buy a new pair. I need them desperately . Please K, lets go and but them!!!" "Now??? " I asked. The Air Conditioning in the room was pleasant and I was loathe to go back outside. "I promise to pick up one pair for you when I get back from work tomorrow" I tried to convince. But by then, my husband had made up his mind and was almost ready to take the bike out and get going. Reluctantly, I gave in. The idea of going in a bike in the evenings always pleases me. Ever since we bought our car, we've had less opportunities to take our Bike. A ride in the bike, especially late in the evening after the traffic, is a very pleasurable. And so, we hit the road to the nearest market. Being Sunday, almost all the shops were closed. There was this one big shop that was open. And I told my husband - "all we need is just one pair of hand kerchief - should we go into this BIG store for that?" He just smiled at me and pulled me along . Little did he know that he was going to pay for it later So, we went to the section in the shop that had Hand Kerchiefs. We dutifully picked up a pair. Our bill was for Rs.40 . My mind was racing - now that I'm here, might as well get some of the other stuff that I have been meaning to buy for long - I told S (my husband), hey "those curtains" - our living room desperately needs a change. Lets pick it up. My Husband smiled just a bit. It was a mix between - see I told you this trip would be useful and a confused one on "oh no" where is this leading to next?. My batteries were now charged. I was possessed. The bill rose to 540. "Hand Towels" I yelled. "The kitchen needs them badly." The bill rose up by another 300. "S", I shouted excitedly - "see that Cotton Salwar over there ? . The summer is hard and I desperately need a couple of them" Per my Husband's calculations, the Bill was atleast Rs. 2040. I ended up finding other priority and urgent items that our household need urgently and finally, the bill was Rs.3040. I stepped out of the shop with heavy bags loaded on both hands. I looked at my Husband and told him straight - "I have so many covers in my hands and we 've come out in a bike. We should have brought the car instead". My husband smiled sarcatically and I was suddenly out of the trance. Wait!!!! I was out now, to enjoy the bike ride or by now, I should have been snoring blissfully zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz |

Hi Kashvya,
Loved the way you had narrated ..Guessed that it would have ended up this way.
I usually put a reminder in my mobile (immediately whenever something got over) to get the list of things when we go for the weekly shopping. Would cross check the list and then start billing it.
Better to avoid last minute tension and end up paying more...bonk
Here we are used to facial tissues so not much use of kercheifs.

Dear Kashvya,
Thoroughly enjoyed your post. This really happens. Sometimes, if we just plan to go for a walk also , it will end up with a big list of items.

| | Re: A Pair of handkerchief that cost us Rs.3040 Hey Kavitha, That was a hilarious account of your shopping experience... Big LaughLovely Narration dear. So this "Sunday Glooms" is in every house isn’t it?? I always hate the thought of going to work on Monday... And my DH calls me a Kid who rebels to go to school after a weekend...yeah I am one.Friday evenings are my best ...Just like you... If there are any given holidays in a week, I encourage myself saying...Aishu...only 4 days struggle this week come on!! lol...I know its funny, but I have to keep me motivated! My shopping experiences are pretty different.I'm not a sporadic shopper.I buy only when absolutely necessary...Call me kanjoos..but i hate to stock up things and discard them later. CV's method of keeping a notepad and pen in kitchen shelf has helped immensely. Wel, i enjoyed your writing style dear ..and keep them coming. |

Dear Kashvya,
This is called shopping psycology. Malls are great tempters, most of us go for tiny weeny one and end up buying more than necessary. Sales are great tempters. Malls with their display also adds to it.
Enjoyed reading , was able to identify with you.

Dear Kashvya,
Wow what a narration...good one ! I too sail in the same boat when it comes to sunday and I do not understand sunday is the day that flies very fast in the week. Regarding shopping we both are little wary shoppers..buying what is actually needed but sometimes I do buy things at the supr of the moment but will buy only the necessity items and sometimes we do not buy what we intended to buy also. |

Dear Kashvya ,
That was really hilarious
Your husband would be regretting his decision to go out to buy handkerchiefs. I bet every time he looks at them, he would get reminded of your shopping expedition
