dear oviya,
your words are as picturesque as your name... it was sheer delight, reading your words...
i've always loved reading, both in english and tamil... my dad was in a way like your grandfather, and would always insist on extending my reading beyond textbooks... (that, i would gladly do :) reading textbooks was the only kind of reading that i tried to avoid !)
my dad has a huge collection of books, but very few magazines were subscribed to at home.... so whenever i went to my granny's place, i would stack up all the AV's and Kalkis i had missed and work through the pile... :)
i am still nostalgic over the first time i read some of the old serials of AV, as bound volumes with gopulu's paintings... i kept reading thillana mohanambal till very late at night since i wanted to finish it, and the proceedings of justice jagannathan kept me occupied during a train journey...
i fell in love with devan, and now i've read most of his works, over and over again...
be it the vambu-laden 'appala kutcheri' of the maamis, the absolute luck of sambu, the racy and quick turn of events in 'kalyani' or the charming romance of janaki and natraj, or the serious, emotion packed 'lakshmi kadaaksham' devan has it all... he is a wonderful wizard of wit :)
am glad i found a fellow-rasikai in you, my dear :)

Dear Sowpar,
Thanks for the wonderful feedback...
It was interesting, too. It feels happy to know a like-minded person which tempts me to write a long reply.
The legendary writers make us live with the characters; so a world of fantasy was obvious.
I would wake up out of nightmares. My Dad used to tell me, 'My dear! You should cut down on your crime novels'.
Let me stop with this, Sowpar. I'm getting stuffs for another thread ...

Dear Razia,
Thanks so much for the double efforts. Actually, while answering to another IL'ites's thread, it happened with me, too, today.
It is a great compliment that my threads are appealing to you. So, energising and encouraging.

Dear Oviya,
This was one wonderful piece. !!!
Enjoyed reading the feedbacks for you. Keep it up !! I like the flow of thoughts and words.
I do like magazines like Gokulam, Kalkandu, Ratna bala, Amar chitra katha(as my mama was in Higginbothams... I used to get many books as compliments)... so enjoyed a lot.
Reminded of my ever memorable days with my Thatha... he used to underline the topics in the Newspapers(English) - Editorial and other important events and Tamil magazines (Ananda vikatan, Thuklak...) He wanted me to read a lot. So after reaching home from school/college, I used to sit by his side and discuss with him.
Keep it up .... You are a good writer !!
With love,

Hi Oviya,
That was a great piece of writing focussing on Tamil writers and magazines. Kudos to Thatha for having instilled this much Thamizh unarvu in you :)
