Your narration on Cataract operation is great and it is true that it is very different between movies and real life.
My dad had gone through this operation, they had done it with laser so we did not even feel operation took place within 2 hours he was home, ya he had to wear black glasses for a week. so that direct light will not come in contact with the eyes. that was for a week or so then he was back to normal. That time he was 68 years this was about 3 years back and now he can read without glasses.
