Hee hee Srini...
I am not surprised at someone being in the bathroom for 60+ mins....becos one of my school mates used to do that...and you know what... whenever we teased her...she questioned us as to how can one bath so quickly within say 10 or 15mins....and give us such a look...as if we are dirty and weirdbonk..
And regarding the clock....even in my place, all clocks are racing with each other...atleast a min ahead of the other. I use by mobile phone only for the alarm (....and ofcourse for sms to india)....and you know, yesterday I saw the time(in my phone) after reading your post....it was as usual different from the rest..but the most funniest was the date...it showed correctly aug 5th....but the day was Sunday... ...I checked and rechecked....hee hee it was set for 2007bonk ........ B,
Thats a good one...In my case its slightly different. I purposefully keep time different in different room, so that I can make sure I do everything in time (confusing you?? Big LaughBig Laugh). Ok let me explain. In our bedroom, we have a timepeice, which I have set to 10 mins more than the standard one (1) Y? I feel that whenever I want to get up, it will give me some extra cushion time to doze off few mins, before actually getting up thats y.
Now, the standard one (1) is Cablevision's time from their receiver, which is their time. All the receivers in all the rooms are same.. But in kitchen, again, I have purposefully set microwave and stove 10 mins fast (You see, that makes me feel that I will actually finish cooking 10 mins ahead than the planned time ) Whether I do it so is entirely a different topic
Atomic server clock, cell phones everything has their own timing, I dont play with them.. Last but not the least, I have set 17 mins fast on our SUV.. why 17, I dont know.. may be I clicked 2 more after 15. Big LaughBig LaughReason is, that way I will never be late to a place

To Ms. Sriniketan
The time is in nobody's control. If anyone thinks that he or she has mastered the time it's his/her fallacy. Yes, one can walk with the time and can use in the best possible way, for the best possible purpose, to achieve the best possible result.
And for the bathroom talk, it was the time when we had one bathroom house. Now we have two, and even if we face difficulties. It is needless to say that I am father of two young daughters !!

Nandhu,
enjoyed your sense of homour and the sense to be on time ...in all the things you do..
10min. in the bedroom to 'warm up' nice idea....me too keep the alarm 15 min.earlier so that i can get up at the right time...
I sincerely think that you are right on time to the parties, maybe 17 min. earlier...

Navaljee,
Nobody can deny that time and tide waits for no man...
Rightly said that we should make use of the time effectively..to which I am slowly putting to practice..
2 daughters...that speaks for itself...
we have 5 bathrooms...only 2 are put to regular use...other 2 are used by my mil during daytime 1 and in the night time the other one.. and the other one is in the guest room...which is used only in case of emergency...
Imagine the scene when all the 3 are put to use...bonk

| | Re: Clock..clock on the wall.... Sun Position - Dear friends,
- This is what I was reading about..
- How to tell the time without a clock...
- I hope you enjoy as much as I do...
- Even taking note of the moon to tell the time is available.
- This one depends on the sun...
- Make note of the position of the sun. If you're in the northern hemisphere, face the south; if you're in the southern hemisphere, face north. (If you don't have a compass, use one of these techniques.) In other words, look at the equator--that is the line the sun generally follows in the sky. It always rises in the east (which is to your left if you're facing south, to your right if you're facing north) and sets in the west.
- If the sun is in the exact center of the sky, it's exactly noon. A nickname for this is "high noon" because the sun is at its highest at noon and the time will be 12:00 PM, but this assumes no daylight saving time, and that you're in the middle of your time zone. For instance, in Salt Lake City, Utah (US), "high noon" is actually at 1:30 PM in the summer because there's an hour added by daylight saving and another thirty minutes added because the city is that time distance (west) away from the center of the time zone.[1]
- If the sun is not in the exact center, you will have to do more figuring. If it is morning, the sun will be in the eastern half of the sky. If it is afternoon, the sun will be in the western half. You can use fractions to divide the sky into hours, and find the approximate time.
- Estimate the number of hours between sunrise and sunset. This varies depending on the season and location. Winter days are shorter than summer ones: about ten and fourteen hours, respectively. Spring and fall days tend to be about twelve hours long, especially close to the equinox (late March or late September).
- Divide the sun's path into segments. If you're looking towards the equator, you can imagine the sun following an imaginary arc from east to west, beginning and ending at the horizon, even if it's obscured. Visualize dividing that arc into equal segments; the number of segments should equal the number of hours in the day. If you know there are twelve hours in a day, you would divide the arc into twelve equal parts, six on the eastern half and six on the western half.
 - If you're having trouble visualizing the sky in segments, you can use your hand or fist to "measure" segments. Going hand over hand, count the amount of fists from one end of the arc to the zenith (the highest point of the sky). Take that number as half of a day. For instance, if you counted 9 fists, and you know the day is 12 hours long, nine fists would be equal to six hours. To figure out how much time each fist represents, divide the number of hours by the number of fists. One fist, then would equal 6 divided by 9 - or about 2/3 hours (40 minutes). This is your hours-per-fist.
- Determine which segment the sun is in. Starting in the east, count how many segments there are before you get to the segment that the sun is in. That will tell you how many daytime hours have passed. The segments that the sun hasn't touched yet indicate how many daytime hours are remaining. If you know the time of high noon, sunrise, or sunset in your area, then you can approximate the current time.
- Using the Salt Lake City example given earlier, let's say there are fourteen segments (because it's summer) and the sun is on the ninth segment (from the east). The eighth segment (right after the highest point) begins at 1:30 PM. The ninth segment begins one hour after that, so if the sun is in the ninth segment, it's probably between 2:30 and 3:30 PM. If the sun was in the sixth segment, the time would be between 11:30 AM and 12:30 PM. With practice, you'll be able to estimate time without consciously dividing the sky.
- If you used the fists method, count the number of fists from the eastern end of the arc to the sun. Multiply that number times the hours-per-fist measurement. Let's say you counted three fists from east to west. Three hours times forty minutes equals 120 minutes, or two hours. So it's been two hours since sunrise. If you know the time of sunrise in your area and season, you can approximate what time it is.

hi srineketan,
I just had a good Big LaughBig Laugh. but then controlled, knowing charu using the bathroom for more than 45 minutes, of course not hiding, taking bath at a leisure on saturdays and sundays.Rant.
I would have set the alarm at 5.15 everyday as srivats goes to cricket coaching early morning. there are days when the alarm goes at 4.30 and i am the only one hitting the snooze button off..when the culprit (read charu) sleeps without being disturbed...and then the just 5 minutes mom goes to another 30 minutes.
Though the clocks are set at different times, the children they know which is how fast or slow, and they calculate and act accordingly.
Clock on the walls, on the system on the shelf, on the telephones all talk different language of numbers in my house.

Dear Sri,
A nice hilarious post that too of your daughter. Don't worry your daughter is not alone here........ come home I will show you lots....... my two sils and now my daughters tooo follow them. I will be asking them what are you people doing inside? doing penance or what?Big LaughRant
But nothing changes them you know.
Regarding these clocks, we too have in each and every room and each is a masterpiece in showing a different time. If i tell my younger one that she is getting late and the clock has struck 7, prompt comes the reply "amma this clock another 10 min is there". |

My dear sri,
Oh yes, there were,I don't know if there are now,
peiple who could tell the time of the day, without referring to a clock.
My mother used to say about her mother,"Do you know, when my mother kept the sambhar to boil,it would be 10.30 in the morning and every day she would it would be the same time."My grandmother could do it,because she did not have to rush to the phone to take a call in the midst of cooking. They never used gas,mw oven, mixi and grinder,so power cuts never played havoc in their kitchen .
More than that I have to agree that those housewives were devoted to their cooking arena. To them cooking was anot a chore it was something more than that.
Here Iam deviating, yes, different clocks do show different times,if it is a question of a few minutes there is no problem, but imagine a person trusting the clock that shows the time as 9 AM and leaves the house to attend an interview at 10AM and to his utter dismay he finds out that he left the house at 10 AM really.
Clocks showing different times are dangerous ,better to check them and see that they show the correct time.
love
