Default Namakkal Anjaneyar

This is a funny incident that occured three years ago. For the readers information,
Namakkal is a place in Tamilnadu which is famous for its Anjaneya Temple[Hanuman] . The statue of Hanuman is believed to be growing every year, minutely.
This temple doesnot have a roof since it is not possible to construct a roof,as the statue grows cm by cm,this phenomenon seems to be a wonder and miracle and attracts Hanuman devotees from near and far.
This happened when my second BIL was married at Srirangam and we were returning to Coimabatore along with the new bride and relatives in cars via road. On the way we visited Gunaseelam and then we turned to Namakkal to our favourite Lord Anjaneyar temple.
As usual we all had darshan, prashad and were in awe and absolute delight at the wonder. We did learn a lot about the temple and the growing statue from the scriptures in an around the temple site.
Then we decided to buy momentos for all our friends and relatives back home.
Everyone bought frames, photos, chains with lord' photos, idols of the lord as per each one's choice.
My hubby after much speculation bought the tiniest idol of Hanumanji. He showed it to me and I was surprised. I asked "Couldn't you buy a bigger idol"
To this, my DH replied " Don't worry, he will grow"

[This anecdote I think I have posted in the Forwarded Messages and Jokes section but I am posting in snippets again].

Haha that is a good dig at those who believe in the growing hanuman. I have been to that temple when I had gone south during school vacations. I visited it again couple of years ago while vacationing in nearby Yercaud. The height was the same as far as I could see though I did not measure the idol.

Meera,
when I first read this post, I thought...'I read it somewhere'...you cleared my doubts at the end....
I had been to Namakkal during my college days...
Growing Hanuman idol, is very much appreciated by one and all in my family....
one doubt..only Namakkal Hanumar idol would grow and not other idols brought from various religious places...

Dear Meera,

I was not aware that Namakkal Hanuman is a growing one.......... your dh is quite hialrious yaar.

In Bangalore, we have a dodda Ganesha temple (dodda means big), here the lord's size is gigantic and it is belived he is growing sideways even now. It is really a treat to see him with butter on him as an alankaram.

Balajee,

It is a popular belief that statue is growing very very minutely. They say that is the reason why there is no roof for the temple. But my dh gave me a new perspective to that phenomenon.
