Default Ball At The Mall

Ball at the Mall

A few days back, I was feeling bored,so me and wife went to a mall just for time pass.Malls are good in this respect, that u can go as many times, and no one will ask you why u are there. You cant go to a private shop, everyday and browse around without buying anything.

So malls are the next best thing for me.Wife said I too will come with u, so we both went to a mall closeby, these days they are a dime a dozen, each one better than the other. Most have the cinemas , and some eating joints.

Here I came across a section selling CD’s and DVD’s of all the movies.the latest ones were very expensive,so I did not touch them. They were like 150/-, even the latest Rani Mukherjee movie just released.Wait a month or two and we will get them for 34/-then I will buy and watch.

I find the Theatres too expensive these days.A family of 4,go for the movies in these Innox theatres, and u are down by a 1000 bucks, and if u eat another 500/-.Just wait a couple of months, and TV shows u the same movie for free, withlots of Advts to tear yr hair apart, or pick up a CD for 34/- and watch it at yr own convienience at home, with a Drink of yr choice. But if u guys and gals follow my advise, all the Khans will go bankrupt , so please ignore my advise at the earliest. And another problem is i have to sit for 3 hours without smoking, hence i prefer to watch at home in two or three sittings, and i still enjoy the movie.

Here I saw a section of old movies, sold by Moser Bear, for 34/- CD’s, and DVD’s for 45/-Ipicked up the old titles some 25 30 of them.Madhumati,Aradhana,Sacha Jootha,Chitchor,Andaz(old one),Ek Hi Rasta ,Johar Mehmmod in Goa and a host of old movies. Harsha went to Big Bazar to buy veggies and fruits, and here I was down the memory lane.It was unfortunate that I had just a 1000 bucks with me, and I had to offload a few movies for want of money. We both had nothing left, and we had to forgo a cup of coffee and sandwiches, so I promised her I will make it up by taking her to Switzerland soon.

I could not wait to watch a movie, and the first one I decided to watch was Aradhana.what a lovely movie, I had forgotten half of it, and till midnight we were watching it, very unusual for both of us as we normally sleep early.Just imagine with the AC on, Tuffy and Harsha with me, and watching this classic, is this not heaven, then what is.Just 34/- for the movie, and maybe 16/- for the AC electricity, we had a dream night together. It takes very little to make me happy, and that too after a nice dinner of Fish and whiskey, and a couple of papads to boot.

Harsha was saying she was in the 9th Std when she saw it, so I must have been in the 10th,and all the memories came back. And Rajesh Khanna was so popular those days, all the guys started to wear his Kurtas, and parting hair like him.

The producer Director Shakti Samantha was very fond of Sharmila Tagore, and she was in most of his movies like Kashmir ki Kali where he introduced her opp Shammi Kapoor, to Evening in Paris, and it seems he wanted to give her a Gift of a memorable movie, a Double role, something like Mehbook Khan gave to Nargis in Mother India. But here Rajesh Khanna took the honours, coming from no where.Rajesh Khanna was deliberately chosen, so as not to pose a challenge to Sharmila’s Role, but fate willed otherwise.Nobody remembered Sharmila, and Rajesh Khanna was born.I call that fate.

The next day we saw Madhumati, and what lovely songs “ Suhana Safar”, being the best of the lot.And it reminded me of Om Shanti Om, which was lifted ditto from this movie.the actual dead woman coming back to make the villain talk, and then the living heroine of the same face coming, all copied from Madhumati. But I must say and believe that a good copy is better than an lousy original , that is my take.

Yesterday I was half way thru Teesri Manzil, and boy the songs and the acting, the suspense and Premnath, what a lovely movie. This movie gave the break to RD Burman, who was languishing under his dad SD Burman.Shammi Kapoor wanted Shanker Jaikishan, his favourites .RD managed to convince Nasir Hussain,Aamir Khan;s uncle, who was the producer.Nasir told RD to convince Shammi, and Shammi gave a very hard time to RD, but RD was adamant, and ultimately made Shammi listen to a Hundred tunes in his bedroom, and Shammi was so floored, that he chose the tunes for the movie. The rest as they say is History.

And I have many more movies to see, and this 1000/- movies will keep me busy for a few months ahead, my nights will be pleasant, each movie bringing their own memories, their scandals, and controversies as I remember over the years. And don’t worry friends, I wont bore u with them.Who of u has the time to listen to an old man’s ramblings, so let it be.

The point I want to make friends is this.It dosnt cost much to be happy, at least I can be in heaven in very little.Bye.

Kamalji,

"Who of u has the time to listen to an old man’s ramblings........."Rant.

I have the time to listen....I maynot have the patience to sit and watch those movies, but will always be patient to have the review and views from those who watched it..sply from you...and yes, can hear the songs of those movies a countless number of times...

You are right about the shopping malls...you can spead hours there window shopping and no body can question you...But yes, will end up buying things that we never intended to, while entering the mall.

You have promised Harshaji a trip to Switzerland...So, which flight will you be taking..does KF have the service to that countryBig Laugh? I am now more eager for you to make the trip...You will have so much to write about that country...

Bye

Kamalji,

Let me join you here. MAlls are great places. but I don't buy much as you already know.

REgarding watching movies, we are in the same plane. I think it is almost 13 years since i watched movies in the hall. Somehow don't feel going and watching one in the theatres.

Give me a good movie, a few snacks, a cup of coffee, with the kids sprawled at your leg, will take it without a blink.

Ho the list of movies that we could really give is great. recently during our vacation, veda had wanted to see a movie again with me and the kids..it so happened the cd was not available at the rental shop. He picked the dvd in the mall, though a little costly, still we enjoyed the movie for quite a few times.

Sometimes, just going for a ride, with the kids singing along is enough to make you feel great.

It never takes much to be happy. it becomes tough and difficult only when you are looking at reasons for not being happy.

(So harshaji is getting a trip to switzerland. great, now we will have more photos and blogs from you on that...)

Dear Kamalji,

Namaste! Humanity can learn a lot from you. A man who is happy with simple things...

Malls are a fantastic place. Not only can you kill time by window shopping but also sit at the food court & study the population around you. A study in human psychology..

We have many Indian stores here in Melb & yes they do stock the latest movies, but I am surprised that the golden oldies sell like hot cakes....

Aradhana is a lovely movie. Specially the songs. I am senti about the song "Meri sapnon ki rani". Why? Because Kamalji, that was the song hubby played when we went out the first time. You see, he had heard from my dad that I favoured the songs of that movie.

Yes, my generation danced to Michael Jackson, Himmesh Reshamiyya etc. But the magic created by the golden oldies specially O.P. Nayyar, RD Saab, they are all time classics....

So when are you taking Harshaji to Switzerland? I am sure, she will visit all the sights & you will visit all the pubsBig LaughAwaiting photos of you hols Kamlaji & of course a funny write-up of your trip there....

I agree with you. I have been to movies with jerks who want to talk on their mobiles when the movie is on/pass coments like. "Oh so boring" etc....Where as hubby & me sit with a bowl of popcorn & put on a movie. That is heaven. We have two tea breaks, the first one, I make a cuppa and the second one, hubby does.

One thing that strikes me Kamalji is Helen's role. Even as a vamp, she has class which I am sure the Rakhi Sawants of today can learn a lot.....Helen was ultimate in dances etc....

One thing Kamalji, when I am down & depressed, the lovely song from Aradhana cheers me Up: Safal hogi teri Aradhana, Kahe ko roye"

I have put it here from "You tube":

YouTube - Safal Hogi Teri (Rajesh Khanna & Sharmila Tagore)

And of Course the OSO Song:
YouTube - Om Shanti Om-Deewangi Deewangi-Full Music Video

Regards,

Hello kalmaji
Malls are quite attractive but all have same sort of culture. But yes a good time pass in airconditions & with eatables at hand .
The old movies u mentioned were great & are still good to watch.
The double role of rajesh khanna was really a hit. I remember Farida jala lhas her first entry in this film.
Almost all the new reincarnation movies are copy of Mahal, madhumati & neelkamal.
few days back I was watching Neelakamal & it was really nice.
Bis sal bad & gumnam were also good thriller.
Regards

Dear Kamalji,

Being a shopaholic, I canspend hours shopping and malls yes, I dont frequent them but when I do I go with the proverbial shop till you drop!!

That was a splendidly economical way for crazy movie fanatics to have the cake and eat it too. Watch movies at quarter the expense at your own convenience!!

All the movies youve mentioned are classics , almost all and i specially love Aradhana and Chitchor for their numbers. What lovely movies!!! And of course the info about Rajesh Khanna a phenomenon during his good ole days....

We can expect a great blog on your Switzerland visit too!!

A very interesting and wise blog Kamalji. Your suggestions here definitely need to be considered.

Regards,
Devika

Dear Shanti,

You must have saved so much money not watching movies these 13 years. And now yr bank accounts must be bursting at the seams. So this calls for a party for the I Lites, juice and sandwitches for them, and u know what for me, Veda will make special arrangements for me.

Yes nothing like watching a good movie with yr kids, and I love watching Tom and Jerry Cartoons with my grown uip daughters, or with small kids, and the antics of TJ never cease to make me laugh.

Harsha has forgotton about Switzerland, so pls don’t mention again, as she will again tell me take me there.HAHA.Regards.kamal

Dear Coral,

U are right.i do study in female psychology.HAHA.I find this species fascinating.

And what does Local Champion mean ,Coral, just under yr name? If it means Wrestling Champion, I will be very scared of u eh !

Ok So u are yr hubby’s Sapnon Ki Rani .Ask him if he still feels the same about u, after Ash,Deepika Padukone and others have come on the screen.HAHA.Just joking.

Im sure the second brak where hubby makes the cuppa is more enjoyable Coral.HAHA.And yes I went to the movie , forgot the name, Imran Khan is the hero, damn good movie, bcs I got the tickets free from a Bank that wants me to give them deposits, and I have no intention to give depositis after I read that they are in deep trouble andits all over the papers now.So I shamelessly took the tics and watched the movie.

And watching at home is very enjoyable. Can talk on the phone and put the movie on hold, have my whiskey, take a loo break, and watch in 2 or 3 installments at my convienience, and can replay a song that I like. All this I cant do in the theatre, can I ?

Helen, no body can beat her really.Graceful, and what a smile , voice and dance. She was the queen really.

The song by SD, yes very good really.i will watch the songs on You tube today.Great ones.Regards.kamal
