Default Re: Ethics of Krishna

Hi All,

Karna - I just want to point out few points...

1. When first Karna enters the competition areana... The acharyas dont want him to
him to compete with Arjuna seeing all his talent and finding him better... Then they illetreated him stating his caste... and Arjuna could have kept quiet.. he also joins them and talks ill of his birth.... Kunti knowing the whole truth on just seeing him... doesnt want to talk about but leaves the areana... Only Duriyodhan comes to his rescue and makes him the King.... It is natural even today, when we go to the competition, we try to compete with the Best... But he was not only snubbed... but abused... I feel, this goes a long way... the revenge mentality...

2. Again he in order to qualify to eqal himself with Arjuna, learns things from Parasurama in disguise... Again he was tested and his own Guru gives him the sapam of all that he learnt will not help him at his last stage.... The insect piercing his legs is not accidental....

3. When Indiran comes for yachakam of kavasa kundalam, Surya bhagavan warns him... Inspite of it, knowing things fully well... he follows his own dharma... and give it to Indira...

4. When Krishna calls him to join the pandavas, stating that he is the elder brother of
the pandavas... he refuses... But again Krishna tricks him, by making Kunti to ask him not to kill the pandavas... Again he obliges... because he cannot say NO, when somebody asks him for something... he says he will not kill any of the other Pqandavas other than Arjuna...

5. Now... Why he want to kill Arjuna... that is because of the competition... and the revenge in his mind... Even though he was better than Arjuna... he was never recogniosed... Not only by others... But also by his own Kauravs...

6. Pithamagar Beeshma, at his death bed tells, that I know, who you are and what you are... I dont want you to fight against your brothers... I am sorry... Pls stop the war... But he fights for the Kauravas...

7. During the War he had chances to kill Bheema and Yudhistrar... But he didnt... he
kept his promise to Kunti... If you say... he betrayed Duriyodhan... yes... But he fought with Venom... Didnt hold back...

8. Salliyan... this FIL... but the Charioter... he cannot be excused for ditching him and walking out... He keeps advising Karna... Do this way and that way... But... when a person is executing his plan, if you keep interfering... everybody will get irritated... If he is so great... why cant he himself do that... Why did Karna, asked Salliya as his Charioter... Because he wants to be in par with the Krishna/Arjuna combination...In the case of Arjuna, inspite of so many times he disobeying or not keeping up with Krishna's plan.... Krishna did not ditch him... he got angry and inspite of hiw vows that he will not fight... he went to fight... then Arjuna has to pacify him... But what Salliya did to Karna is unfogivable...

So... Karna was in all possible ways... was humiliated, ditched by everybody... But he stood there alone... as a great Warrior.... known for his Charity...

Now, the only thing against him is that he was part of the Dhrowpathui Dhugil Uriyal... Again, why should he alone be blamed... The man who played dice, keeping his wife at stake... The FIL/MIL.... (Dridharashtra and Kanthari)... The greats Bheeshma and the Acharyas... Forget all... The husbands... Panch Pandavas... They were also party to that... That being the case... why blame just Karna...

I rest my case with you all.... hahahahahahaha... These are my views... Not meant to offend anybody.... I will come back with my views on Dhuriyodhana and Krishna later...

Hello Kanaka Ma'am,

I too agree with you that Karna was a great warrior and a man of great character, who unfortunately had everything going against him right from birth. Vysan sir has given a very good listing of salient points of the Mahabharata.

He could have defeated Arjuna in single combat, and everybody knew that. That is why Krishna and the others sought to keep Karna away through all possible means. Otherwise why should Indra try his trickery and come as a Brahmin seeking alms?

He was humiliated for his birth as a charioteer's son - it was no fault of his. But the so-called righteous Pandavas saw nothing in mocking him for it. Moreover, Drona was overtly partial to Arjuna and made sure others would not have an opportunity to challenge him (remember Ekalavya?).

Therefore, it is not fair to cast Karna as a villain - he is in my opinion, the most awe-inspiring character in the Mahabharata. Perhaps that is why, even now, his name is the only one among the Kaurava party that is used to name boys (e.g. Karan).

Best Regards,
Sowmya

True the only name which is common. I haven't heard sombody by named Yudhishtra who is cosidered Mother of Honesty! To me Karna is an enigma.

He never joined Kauravas as a spoiled brat. I feel irritated with the 'Krishna'. Not an ideal person for us to emulate. kanaka
