Default Nataraja Nee Nada Raaja (Nataraja, walk my son)

Natarajan is my son. From birth his walking is a problem. No, there is nothing wrong with his legs. He is lazy to walk. He virtually moved around first in tricycle then bicycle, scooter and now growing up he moves only in car. If there is some problem with the car he does not hesitate to engage a cab and luckily for him they are available 24 hours just outside our door step. Even to the nearest shop he will go by car and when he comes out with us nowadys it is very rarely he is forced to walk with us and he feels so restless and would like to hop into some vehicle forcing us also.

I used to tell him " Nataraja, go for regular walks. When you grow old all doctors are going to advice you to walk daily. See, now itself you have a big tummy and if you walk it will reduce.". He will reply " Don't worry mom, I will go to gym regularly and trim myself".

Today I showed him Cheeniya sir's thread on walks and reluctantly he read and said " Hey, mom he is also supporting me. See the title itself. If you go on walks you have to face lot of perils like bird spitting on you etc. Inside car I am protected. You know in Mumbai people have the habit of spitting with paan in their mouth. If I walk I will be targetted easily. If I am in my car I am protected.". I had a laugh and said " thum kabhi nahi sutharoge (you will never improve)".

For the last few days the clouds have opened up and it has been pouring cats and dogs. In the evening my son came home drenched in rain. I was surprised as he normally goes out and comes in by car from the car shed he never takes his rain coat or umbrella. When I asked him why he is drenched he said " My car is submerged in rain waters in our office complex and I had to walk all the way home. Mom I really enjoyed my walk. Initially I felt like my legs aching, but as I continued to walk I felt better". I asked him " You said you walked? there were no cabs available?". He said " No, None was available and my friends also who had brought their cars decided to walk and I had to join them". I just thought for some time and asked " Friends included girls also?". He said " Oh ,mom we don't see them as separate.". I understood why he walked all the way. I was happy when he further said " Hereafterwards, I am going to go for evening walks with my friends".

( This is pure fiction)

Hi Geetha,

a very nice post on a lighter side.

I am glad Nataraja learned that walking is an easier, sometimes essential exercise!

Hi sundarusha,

I am glad that you liked it. I wanted to post in Tamil font. But, I find it is better that I have put it here in english. Thanks a lot for your appreciation.

Love,

Hi brindhak,

You are right. In the present days with hectic household activities housewives find little time to go for walks for health. My mother who passed away recently suffered from arthrities and doctors used to insist that she should go for walks. It is o.k other times but during mansoon seasons it is not possible. But, she used to take short walks within the house and keep doing exercises to the leg. Our physiotherapist had suggested that she should take 1 Kg of rice or wheat in a bag put it over the leg and try to lift it. She was doing it sincerely. Thanks for your comments.

Love,

Geetha Iyer

Dear geetha,

a hilarious write up...no use telling him to walk to reduce the tummy and all......see ,he enjoyed walking after finding the right incentive...now hope his life is full of such moonlight walks...
