Totally hilarious Lakshmi!

I am reading it from work and I could not help but let out a loud laugh when I read about the cooker incident with your Mom and the one where your Dad comes home from work and finds both sisters and your brother honing their respective musical skills at the same time! I think reading your post has given me my week's worth of humor. It was too good!

I love music too and learnt from my Mom. My Mom was a working lady so the only time she got to teach us music was in the evening while she made dinner. We (me and my sisters) would sit with the harmonium and taanpura in the room adjacent to the kitchen and Mom would give us lessons from the small "service window" in the common wall between the room and the kitchen. Her hands were busy cooking and her mouth busy singing - giving us lessons! Gosh, being a mother of two now I cannot imagine having that kind of energy after a full days work! Daddy got passionate about music after getting married to Mom and he would actively participate in selecting songs for us for music competitions that we'd regularly participate in and used to be our audience and critic.

Luckily for me, husband too is very passionate about music so music has continued in my life, albeit, not as much as I’d it like to due to time constraints.

Anyway. Had a great time reading your wonderful narration.

Keep writing. We are here, waiting to read your writings!

Lakshmi..
I was while reading your post..same is the case with me, which I regret now...very shy in those days to have my voice being heard by others..( don't expect it now as mine is the only voice heard, running behind the children.)
As because my paatu teacher told me to raise my voice, citing an eg. how my grandma sings well, I refused to go to that class and I learned veena instead...

How about your 'Lambodharaa sister' and how is she doing now?

Yes, it is irritating when parents keep insisting. But once we get interested, there is no stopping. My maternal grandfather like your BIL self taught himself to play flute. He learnt carnatic music listening to his sisters learn music at home and is extremely passionate about it.

Keep writing more...!

Dear Sri

I thank you for having enjoyed reading. You know what my granny gifted us a 100 year old Shruti box which she used and my parents got vexed with our reluctancy learning the art and encased it in a teak box as to not to see it any longer..

Learning music is great and I want to comically or not comically emphasise to all mothers.. Now I have "the strange wish" of making my son Sanjay to Sanjay Subramaniam with God's grace.. thats why I named him Sanjay Krishna and ancestral name as "vaithy Subramaniam" so that i can reshuffle when he become one .. (Heee heee..)

thanx
Lakshmi

Dear LakNar,

Or...the one half of the Lambodhara sisters...that was a funny write up from you, I kept smiling and smiling. Besides, as you can see from the number of fbs here, you are not the only L-sis team I guess. Ok, count me into the same group. Me and sis are only a year apart and my parents, esp, my dad wished that we turn out into great musical duo..Bangalore sisters or something! Now don't tell me they really exist, all sorts of sisters are out there, may be B'lore too...But whoever they are, it is not us! We never made the mark, although took the exam and all , the first one and one examiner liked me and passed me with a class too!! As for me, I had nil interest to go through the nuances of Carnatic music, all that I wanted to be was a Vyjayanthimala (loved dance)!! Well, today, I really really regret not showing more interest...
Atleast now I know, I am not alone:)

Lakshmi,

An excellent narration! I was in splits all through!! My mom too tried to teach me geethams and keerthanais but in vain! And kudos to your desire to learn now. Go ahead and do it and keep singing.

Regards,
Anitha

Dear Kamla

Never mind you can learn dance or music as long as your health cooperates. Age is not a matter as I have a cousin learning "thaiyum thakka thaiyum thaahaa" at the age of 35 without hesitation.. so no probs.. if your time permits I am waiting to see "vyjayantikamala" in our community..

Thanx for that feedback.. Now I am happy there are lot of Lam(b) sisters out here.. I am not the only one to feel on..

luv
Lakshmi
