Dear Kamalji,

Glad you find this topic funny !

Absolutely, I agree with you that GOD is within us...that is why in my first post I had mentioned...God is Omnipotent and omnipresent..but this needling feeling..don't know whether to call it guilt or not..is there when I am about to throw these bags and covers in the trash bins.

Good example of the grocery fellow..but he is in a different predicament...in the sense..he doesn't throw these bags..but sells them !

And yes, we need to be practical, because it is impossible to collect these too !

So, I just ask for forgiveness before I dispose them :)..

Thanks for stepping in and sharing your views here...

Cheers
Krithika

Well how about the Grocery fellow, whoprinted the laxmi on the packet. Is he not giving away the Godess in thousands , should the trader be cursed ? No infact he makes money.

God is not in pictures or statues, he is within us.

Look at the marble statues of Gods sold in Jaipur for which it is famous. What we treat as God in our home, the shopkeeper who sold it to us, treats it like any other commodity like rice or sugar, and sells it.If he treats every statue as God, he will starve to death.

I feel God is inour hearts, not outside in all these rituals.

But then u are right too, u feel guilty as we all would to throw away the wrappers with God on them, its only atural, but what to do, we have to be practical.

Regards.kamal

Dear Lalitha,

I do agree with you and Kamalji that GOD is within us.

Of course, throwing them in lakes, rivers and beaches causes contamination in these...which is not conducive..wherever we live.

Thanks for sharing your views..

Cheers

Hi krithika,

Nice topic to be discussed. My mom and granny always collect them and keep it in a separate big plastic box. We have no idea what we are going to do with them. At times we nail it or glue it over the doors.

Dear Monsi,

Seems like many of you reinforce that belief that GOD is within us. I don't deny it, Monsi..but can't help feeling bad when throwing them.

That said, as Kamalji pointed out, we are practical and dispose them in the trash bins.

Of course there is no opportunity here to dispose them in any other way.

Totally second you on contributing to contamination of water.

Thanks for your inputs...

Cheers

BTW, my question to all other ladies who say that they throw or dispose these wrappers and bags in the lake, beach, or water, Dont you think you are contaminating the water? I think it is a complete disrespect to the "God's" created nature. Think about it

Dear Jaishree,

You are right....wherever I see these God and Goddess picture... makes me hesitate for a while.

Also, here we cannot even keep them in temples..as it will be obviously visible..who is leaving items/articles. Moreover, when they take great pains to clean the temple and surroundings..does not feel right to leave them there too !!

So, in a dilemma all the time..and finally, collect them in a plastic bag and dispose in the trash..apologizing to God all the time ! :)

You are right about invitations and newspapers...same feelings arise...

Thanks for giving your inputs...

Cheers

"I did mention this thing once before also in one of my threads "Those nine days "
After few days these newspapers & cards are thrown in the dust bin because how long one can collect invittion cards .

Dear Brindha,

I agree with you 100% ! All of us are in unison when it comes to that !

But this hesitation to throw the God/Goddess pictures (on bags and covers) rises up often..but over come that every time and then dispose it.

Thanks for your opinion...Prahaladan says that to his father Hiranyakasibu.. I remember this story ! :)

Cheers

Hi Cindhuja,

Glad your like this topic ! Good idea by your mom and granny..as you mentioned..we are confused what to do with them later on.

And also, it might be impossible to nail/glue so many pictures (that too same) throughout our home/pooja room . :)

Thanks for sharing your ideas...

Cheers

Krittika,

Kalash here is a huge earthern urn kept for tis special purpose where people come to leave the garlands , used pooja items etc. It is kept here for this specific purpose.
There is no temple there Krittika! A pond yes used for visarjan, but we dont put it directly there , we put it in the Kalash.

Love,
Devika

What is a kalash, by the way? Won't the temple authorities object to it?

Cheers

Dear Krithika,

I understand your point. I dont have it here , but yes it is a problem when we actually see the god's picture and then have to throw them away. But one thought the other religions don't use their god'S pictures on the commodities they sell, do they? So why only we do that.......isn't this nor blasphemy!? I wonder.....and on top of it i have seen people wearing t. shirts and carrying bags with shiva etc here , i do get upset sometimes. Had to learn to ignore and not get into a tension! Anyway maybe these manufacturers should rethink on their cover design! good topic.........
