Today Friday 13 Unlucky????

Today when I openend my laptop the first thing I eyed is" Friday the 13th Is Unlucky?""

It is assumed that today only few people choose to drive their cars,some do not eat in restaurants,do not go for work,no wedding date,staying at home is recommended. Some sources say that it is most widespread superstition in the United States.
U.S being one of the well developed countries still people beleive in this superstition.

Katharine Kurtz in Tales of the Knights Templar (Warner Books: 1995):

On October 13, 1307, a day so infamous that Friday the 13th would become a synonym for ill fortune, officers of King Philip IV of France carried out mass arrests in a well-coordinated dawn raid that left several thousand Templars — knights, sergeants, priests, and serving brethren — in chains, charged with heresy, blasphemy, various obscenities, and homosexual practices. None of these charges was ever proven, even in France — and the Order was found innocent elsewhere — but in the seven years following the arrests, hundreds of Templars suffered excruciating tortures intended to force "confessions," and more than a hundred died under torture or were executed by burning at the stake.

UNLUCKY FRIDAY + UNLUCKY 13 = UNLUCKIER FRIDAY

A Friday the 13th on which one breaks a mirror, walks under a ladder, spills the salt, and spies a black cat crossing one's path — a day, if there ever was one, best spent in the safety of one's own home with doors locked, shutters closed and fingers crossed.

Ofcourse it is a dismissed superstition in States but eight percent of people still follow it...

Practically spoken by Dutch staticians that 13th is no more unlucky and it is more safer to drive as people is more cautious onthis day or some stay at home.Fewer accidents and thefts are also reported compared to other days...

So by this it is assured that not only in India ,but around the globe this superstitions evil is still existing..no matter of people ..

This friday is a Good day in India....but not the same out in US
We still have solid proof of stars and heavenly bodies affecting us while we belive in the Superstition but Friday the 13th seems to have no scientific or astronomical or astrological explanation

Hi DG,

Very simple. Some believe and some don't believe in this. There are a few English horror movies which gets released with this no. / on a 13th which falls on a friday. Like Friday the 13th and The Happening, getting released today world wide.

May be in US its unlucky or may for Christian followers it should be..

not for Hindus and they consider Friday auspicious for Goddesses Lakshmi and Durga.

Friday is sure auspicious in India, though I dont know about the number 13. Atleast for many it is a lucky one. Mr.Ravichandran, the producer of Dasavathaaram, feels that number 13 is lucky for him (the movie is released today). lets see.

If people stay indoors with their fingers crossed , are they allowed to uncross fingers for cooking cleaning and other chores?

In India & Hindu mythology Friday is not unlucky! It is related with Venus goddess Laxmi & Durga & Sntoshi ma. My Dear Husband is a ardent worshipper of Ma santoshi & almost all of his important work is being happened on friday.
No day or Date as such is lucky or unlucky if some thing happens it was bound to be happened that way . It was predestined.
I never think that roads ,shops or market were deserted becoz of unlucky days!
We can't Sit with our hands crossed becoz if some bad news wud happen it wud happen with crossed fingers also.

had not even realised that today was friday the thirteenth...anyway it was very much similar to other days...nothing bad happenned so it was a very good day...i suppose

How to name it guys??....


Things seemed quite normal this morning, until I forgot to pick my home keys & car keys to leave to work. My husband is off to NYC and I was locked out at 8:30am in the morning,. Had walked to drop off my daughter to school and had a friend pick me up to go to work..

So, how do I consider this??.. my fault to forget the keys or play a blame game on Friday the 13th - ( Well I got married on friday, the 13th)

Thanq for ur replies.It is very true that in India it is very auspicious day as godess Laxmi is worshipped, and no doubt abt it and we never think any friday in the year is bad.Its our beliefs and religion.I wrote this post pointing at U.S that in such a developed country few people do still follow some superstitions like this and ofcourse it seems friday 6 is also included for these people alog with 13.
